quarter mile time for 2000 si
i just bought a 2000 si and all that i want to do to appease my speed appetite is to run a 14.?? in the quarter mile. i dont care if it is a 14.9999999 as long as it in the 14's. can i do it without any drastic modifications. headers, cai, and exhaust are the basics but what else do i have to do without running nos, turbo, superchargering, or engine buildup. i don't really want to do anything to the internals on the motor just yet. it only has 30,000 miles and i need the 100,000 mile warranty on it. any help will do.

Assuming you are a GOOD (I can't stress this enough) GOOOD driver, getting a 99-00 Si into the 14's w/ bolt-ons is a difficult task. It is a very difficult car to drag because of the lack of torque.
There are a helluva lot more Si's running 15.9-16.1 w/ I/H/E then there are running 14.9. It happens, though.
Figure on I/H/E and either some sort of cam setup or and LSD to help you get 14's reliably. Also, remove your power steering belt at the track--it's a free 2-minute mod that is good for at least a tenth off.

Learn to launch your car (around 5500 rpms, slipping the clutch out) Shift fast. If you do that and get a quality i/h/e set-up, and take out the spare tire, all seats but the driver seat, you should be able to do it.

Cheaper just to borrow a set of 20" slicks though.

i doubt 14.9 on Bone stock even with i/h/e.
unless u're like at an altitute of 200000+ sea level and it's 50degrees and another car is pushing you from the rear while u're being towed by a super fast car.

Last weekend, I watched a 99' Si on 17" wheels, Nitto 450's and I/H/E do a 15.3 (I was there to watch the V8's though). This was at approx. 800 ft altitude and about 68 degrees, so conditions were pretty good. The driver is good, but by no means a highly experienced drag racer. IMO, he could get into the 14's with smaller/lighter wheels, and a better set of street tires.
and I still don't see the point of "drag racing" a car that was never meant for such a thing...

i don't drag my car. i was just giving the quarter mile time as a reference to how fast i would like for it to go. i have to agree with fsp31 when he said "I still don't see the point of "drag racing" a car that was never meant for such a thing...". my 2000 si was not built for dragging. i am not totally ignorant either because if you look in the whole realm of things a honda civic si really isn't that fast. compared to other stock 4 cylinders ya it holds its own but as compared to cars that this car was supposed to attract i would go with something else and spend a little more money but for the money that i spent on it and the car that i got you really can't beat it. don't get me wrong though, i don't feel like getting slammed, i love my car and the way that it performs, handles, etc.... but i just want a little more now. i figure when i get a littler more mature i will be wanting an audi s4 or something like that.

a stock Si runs 15.7-15.9 I have seen the timeslips of yellowcorn's 14.9 with only intake and slicks. From what I saw he was launching at 7k..!
With i/h/e on slicks I have seen 14.8-15.1 timeslips. Its possible with the right mods.

You do not need I/h/e and slicks to run a 14! There have been A few who have done it with just an aem on street tires, there have been a few more who have done it with i/e on street tires, and there have been even more who have done it with i/h/e on street tires. You do not need slick, just a little weight reduction, a couple of "better breathing" mods, and the best of all [B]LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THE DAMN CAR TO IT'S POTENTIAL[/]
"a little weigh reduction" and you hit 14's? What exactly do you mean by that? take out seats, spare-tire, go on diet, cf hood, remove a/c, power steering, etc? i still don't believe 14's even with i/h/e
Take out seats and spare. 14's are not hard with weight reduction and i/h/e, if you know how to get the most out of the car, which too many people don't.
I don't have an si, but as far as weight reduction I noticed that my rear seats were really light, I didn't weight em, but I'm guessing like 20 pounds max, seemed like the spare tire and jack weighed more. Now the fronts SI seats seem to weigh a ton, I had those uin my EJ coupe, mucho more comfortible than old civic seats but also seemed lots heavier in the install...
Just noticed that most people say wieght reduction and they means seats, CF hood and spare tire and stuff, I would guess you are only looking at a 70 pound reduction max with this. Witha daily driver and can't see doing a "safe" significant weight reduction on these guys to get it down the strip quicker.

screw the 1/4, upgrade your brakes and buy a helmet and run a 2.9 mile track. youll be more into the class that the car was made for...
To me, why waste the money. Damn not unless you want DOHC VTEC on the side of your car and a pretty Blue color. Screw the SI's, Honda f'd up bad when they decided to throw a perfectly good motor in a horrible chassis. They shoulda stayed with the hatch, the only true Si. I would hate it if my car had 160 stock and I was worried about breakin 14's with I/H/E. Damnit put a SOHC in it and sell it to some 16 year old with money who doesnt know a damn thing, then buy an EG or EK drop that B16 in there and ask how to hit 13's.
there's a couple people from superhonda.org Si forum that did high 14's with just an AEM CAI + ITR clutch. they also removed back seats and '14 wheels, prolly better tires. he got movie clip of it too. 14.83 sec 1/4.
in rockfalls wisconsin, a guy pulled a 14.9 with intake and stock tires, full interior, also and with altitude adjustment thats a 14.7 or so there, im sure i can get the time slip and more detail if you like.
i pulled a 15.2 with a aem short ram, custom rear section and 14" steelies in the front..

its all about the 60ft and the air. a cai isn't gonna do any good if its like 70 + degrees outside.
take the ac belt off. power steering belt. header, exhaust, intake. 14''steelies in the front with pressure to about 20..
heat em up..

ps-shifting at 8000G doesn't do you any good on the torqueless motor. 7400 it dies off quick, shift at 7200-7500.
ps-honda will void you warranty wether it sees a turbo, or intake on your car.
