Default Does your A/C stay cool?

my A/C really sucks, after 30 mins of driving (highway) it gets warmer and warmer. I think that it's either 1) not enough air flow to the condensor or 2) the a/c hose near the turbo is heating up too much. I tried wrapping the hose w/ thermal wrap and it helped a bit but it still doesnt stay cold.........just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this and if there's anything else i could do. TIA

Do you have a fan on the condensor? I used some thermal heat shroud from DEI on my AC line near the turbo. It helped alot. And if that doesnt help, maybe you need a recharge.

nope, i was planning on using my fans as pushers, right on the condensor but with the ic and a/c lines i couldnt get it in...so they're on the radiator as pushers. I'll try a recharge, if that doesnt work i'll spring for a 1/2 sized radiator from streetimports and have one of the fans direclty on the condensor LOL.

I hope you mean they are on the radiator as pullers not pushers as that would certainly heat things up.

I was able to fit my fans on the condensor under the ac lines and the 3" thick fmic.

And for the 50 PMs I get everytime I post that pic. They are 12x12x2.5" fans 1500cfm ea, $55ea from Viren.

oops, yup i meant pullers on the radiator. i guess i gotta try again w/ the pusher setup, mine looks just like that, even the 3" thick FMIC hahaha. thanks for the pic . so yo just pulled back the ac pipes and slid the fans in between?

it was recharged not too long ago, although i really want to bring it to a facility w/ a machine since we only used those autozone recharging kits and i think the guage was off....i'll try it out

Mine did the exact same thing. Get a recharge. And wrap your lines.

hey i wanted share this, in my country temp reaches above 100F and i learned lots of stuff to make even a 1.3L cool like a freezer

these could be wrong:
1- maybe the AC clutch doesnt engage? do you hear it engage?
2- maybe you do need a recharge?
3- The worse thing which happened to me my ac compressor oil seal gasket went bad and the whole compressor failed because the oil leacked and caused it to overheat
4- Bad leacking condensor
5- bad heat expander
6- Bad condensor filter

if one of these components fails then the AC unit wont cool as it should be or even not cool at all....as a 1st step i would do a leack check on the feed line, receiver line of the condensor going to the blower inside , condensor and even if the compressor has oil lubrication still in it.....then do a recharge if everything seems ok....if not sorry to tell you it seems major and more money has to be spent...this is what i required to make my junk AC work again:
1- 2nd hand compressor
2- new heat expander
3- New Condensor filter
4- New Evaprator
5- New feed/receiver lines
6- New blower fan

all of this costed me 250 to 300 bucks MAX including labor , oil fill , R134a gas recharge...!!!! i put my fan level at 1 and i am chillin at +100F....Look into Kan Den Japanesse AC compressors thats what my friend has on his E300 non AC Jap spec Mercedes and works perfectly as if it came from the manufacturer!

hope this helps

Mine gets warm at idle on a HOT humid day (90F + 100% humidity), COLD on freeway speed or crusing for that matter to a point...

Then I get a "rise" in temps (to the point I shut it off to cool the engine temps down) if I use it in Hot humid days only, other "normal" days it does great ...

My problem stems from the FMIC up front taking all the space, then the Integra condenser then finally the Civic (dual core); all this into a hatch front end, eh?....

So my "cheap" solution is to add/squeeze another 10" pusher fan on the opposite side of the condenser(on the radiator side) to provide more "flow".

I got an ebay 9" slim fan as a pusher o my Integra. Fits great with a 2.5" think i/c. This weekend I am putting on my DEI thermal stuff on my downpipe as it is about 1/4" away from the compressor. Then I am wrapping my ac lines as well. I hope that helps as mine is blowing hotter air then when I had no turbo.

not to be an *** or anything but as far as recharging...?????? YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO RECHARGE....IF YOU DO ITS BECAUSE THERE IS A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM!!!!!!!! trust me....it is A CLOSED SYSTEM....**** REFRIGERANT SHOUDN'T COME OUT NORE DIRT GO IN THE SYSTEM....
now that we got that clear, what could be the prob is your expantion valve...its like a fuel pressure regulator exept its not adjustable nore controld by manifold vacuum, if you understand how the air conditioning system works, it creats a pressure point where your refrigerant drops temperature dramaticly after turning to liquid in the condensor while still remaining a liquid....(located between your condensor and evaporator a.k.a. heater core)

also it can be a bad compressor which is the heart of the system...point where the refrigerant is pressurized from cold gas to a hot gas...check for leakage by color dye....if you do have a leak somewhere hopefully it's not in the evap...you'll know by fluid under your carpet...lol....
if you have any problems email me i'll try and assist on anything....jay

Wow, you guys don't fix much AC, huh? It's a simple heat exchanger system, guys, it should work best at a steady highway cruise where the radiator puts off less heat than at idle, where you have good revs to make the compressor really pump, and great airflow to keep things cool. This is not a low R12/R143a problem.

That could be it. My vote is your evaporator is freezing up, probably due to a bad thermostatic expansion valve, and blocking the refrigerant flow. A set of gauges will tell all... low side starts pulling a vacuum and the high side goes so high you're afraid it's going to blow (it might) with pressures 250+ psig. I had a BMW toss 480 psig on the high side once, that **** scared me.

Yea it took some bending of the metal AC pipes, drilled out the spot welds on that vertical cross peice in the middle, and i had to hack up the fan scrouds a little bit to squeeze them in there.

Its probably your condensor, if you covered the front air dam with an intercooler.
Thats my problem and im going to cut medium sized oval holes or some other cool design into the bumper so air gets to the condesnor. I cant fit fans on the front side of the condensor, tried that already. I already have a fan directly on the back of the condensor with half sized radiator. And i tried wrapping ac lines and rerouting them. Its only gotten marginally better, the condensor needs air ot pass through it.

Eventually i do know that and sorry if it seemed like i explained wrongly....guess i should have explained it in the begining.....well i dont know how much is a refill is in the US, but here where i live it costs 15 bucks for a refill.... i know the system is a closed loop type thats why i said the system components has all to be working to make the AC work...checking for a leak is a pain if u wanna know and as you said the compressor is the heart of the AC system, SO by doing a refill you KNOW the most important thing in your AC system is working or not.....i learned that the easieest way to know a compressor is working or not by doing a refill, turn the AC ON for 1min while the car is idle-ing....if the air blown in the car is a little cool that means the compressor is working and theres a leak somewhere...for how cheap a refill is it saves you $$$ to replace a compressor or even other components.....The heat expander isnt that expensive try that like the guys said, but still make sure that the heart of your system (compressor) still works. Old compressors can still cool, but once their temp raise it stops cooling, beacuase of an oil seal leak

keep us posted i wanna know what wcould be the problem
