ran my EG in the 1/4 tonight... and ran outta gas (b20)
I just got back from the track. I believe I had a lot against me and hope for a better day to go back to the track. It was Very hot and muggy out and rained 30 minutes after i got there. Well anyways.. my speedsensor isnt working so my trip'o'meter isnt working so i'm not sure how much gas i still have in the tank. All i knew was that it was on E and I was hoping to have enough gas to make a couple quick passes. I stage up, knowing I have traction problems so I didnt launch it at all. I just took it easy and then floored it to keep from spinning too much. I go and all seems well but kinda feels sluggish. Just as I was about to put it into 4th gear the engine goes dead on me so i pressed the clutch and drifted out the rest of the 1/4 mile. 14.6 @ 87, running outta gas. I pulled over to the fueling station and all they have is race gas. I asked for 100oct. but the guy misunderstood and used 110... I figured, oh well. My car runs A LOT better off 87oct, I knew this would slow me up. (8.8:1 compression
) I stage up again and I spun pretty bad but kinda grabbed. Felt even more sluggish and like it had no more top end. I hit the revlemit in 3rd pretty bad and then kept in it with a 14.5 @ 94.3 . I can tell by the times that the higher oct. fuel killed performance on my engine (b20). Oh well next time will be much better. After that run I had to get going because it started raining pretty bad. Hopeing for 13.9-14.2 range on decent street tires nect time. Wish me Luck

damn dude that sucks. lookin at ur slip i can see u were going better on the first pass by the comparison of the 1/8th mile. i can only imagine the frustration u had man. better luck next time.
If you werent sure how much gas you had, you should of filled up just
to be safe, yea i know it is easy to second guess but its not smart driving
around like that. better luck next time

looks like u had almost an identical trap speed at the 1/8th mile marker. yeah u know how that 110 always slows ppl down
with a good 60' u could realistically pull lower 14s but with that trap speed thats about it.

Wrong!
octane does not equal horsepower.
you want to run the LOWEST octane you can without knock.

Yeah I understand that night if all was right that is all I would have expected. Track condition and weather plaied a big roll in performance to.
I had this swap in my coupe before i put it into my hatch and I ran 14.4 @ 96 at best in that. but the traps staid in the 97 to 96 range. The coupe was also 200lbs heavier. If i had a engine with more conpression Id only use higher oct. if I had knock when advancing my timing. The B20's comp. is at 8.8:1 and is night and day differnce with 87 vs. 93. 110 just made it worse. I've had the swap for a year+ in my coupe and a month and a half in my hatch. I know what works best with it. and Both runs were off idle, Id still get a lot of wheel spin so launching it on those tires wouldnt be smart.

I knew I had enough gas to make it to the track, just didnt know i had taht little. all is fine tho.

I've been thinking about the head swap or building my non-vtec head. I've been thinking hard about what route i wanna take.
Thanks for any possitive input

Yeah go ahead and add the extra 50 or so pounds that a full tank gives you. LOL. Come on guy weight is the enemy here.

esp. for Brad (Typesi2nv) hes the most weight reductedist (inside joke). But really if u knew him, ud know this kid does alot of wierd off the wall **** and most of the time it works. like his 200mph taped spare bumper, stripping his dx and making it lighter than a vx somehow. this kid has talent. but yeah back to the topic at hand, i see why he didnt have it full of gas. simply cause its brad
People that know me call the stuff i do... Brad Mods lol.
If I were to of preped my car for the track like i normaly do, it would have ran a lot quicker then what it did. I had everything in the car all the way down to teh Burger King I had on my way to the track. haha. All i took out was the passenger seat.

Hey Brad how much does your civic weigh? Thats some good numbers for a fairly stock B20. I cant wait to see your new times this friday
if i recall correct his dx weighs 1918 lbs. but i could be wrong. he had the same exact swap in his dx coupe awhile back and it went 14.4 all motor on street tires. this very same engine also was in a 1995 cx hatch with a 60 shot which ran 13.6 on street tires. i think he has a "lucky" b20 cause for some reason this engine just seems to get stronger each time it gets swapped into somthing else.
also the original owner of the b20 (cx hatch) and brad both can drive their asses off, if that attributes to anything.

haha, thanks Jason.
It was 1904lbs with the D series in it. Not sure what its at w/ the B20. I need to stick it back on the scales.
The coupe I had it in was 2360.
and the CX it used to be in had stock exhaust and cat with short filter on a stick intake and pos header. ran the 13.6 like that.
hopeing to pull some decent times this friday if the weather is decent
Oh by the way jason, I raced a new SRT4 yesterday I had him nicely until 5th when he started to gain on me so i let off haha... (295)

J,
I would run my car tonight (friday) but its 93 out side and heat index is at 110. lol So i'mma go to WalMart instead and chill until a decent night or until I add some nice power adders here soon
I'm saving enough to do something nice but + get dyno tuning so i do it right the first time. A lot of people forget about the dyno time that is envaulved with the decent mods in life
lata man

Hehe... I lied, If the weather holds off I may be leaving here in 20-30minutes to get more track time in
wish me luck

Welp, I ran the car again. This time it on 87 and in 100% street trim. I had a lil more gas then last time. Full interior (heavy *** teg front seats), tools, lug 4way, and a lot of dumb stuff. These times also wernt on my 23lb (with tires) mx3 wheels. I was on my bling bling 5spoke heavy rimes (15'inch PRIMEs painted black, 43lbs w/ tires!). (BTW to explain my self about having those wheels, I traded an a/f gauge and boost gauge for all 4 w/ new kumho Escsta's.
So, any of you think I'm able to hit the 13.9-14.1 range if i tried ?
anyways. here's the info and times how i drive it daily:
Temp: 96 (a lot hotter then last time..)
