How necessary are hood pins on CF hoods??

 

Its recomended, but not essentail on the integra, since the hood sits so flush with the bumper.. IMO

would you need them on some manufactures more than others. ie a vis hood, is one of the better ones, if they're made better, do you still need them?

 

Not important especially the VIS hood...

 

not extremely important but it would be better if u had them.

 

i dont really see why you need them , do they like hold your hood down or something ?

it makes me sad to hear someone say something like that. But I' gonna be positive about that question.

The only hood pins that don't actually hold your hood down properly are the APC stick on hood pins.

 

Hoodpins look stupid - spend the money on a quality hood that conforms to the factory laching mechanism and you will be much happier.

No stupider than a large piece of unpainted CF on an otherwise painted car street car, and definitely much less stupid than a broken windshield, dented roof, or (much worse) a serious accident, caused by a hood that's broken and flown up while at speed.

Stupid is the person who buys an important piece of the body like a hood and cheaps out on it so that it does fly up at high speeds, breaking your windshield and causing an accident.

Again, I've heard of a number of popular and not inexpensive brands suffering from this problem. Almost all of the commercially available hoods are constructed in fundamentally the same manner anyway. If you're worried about "ruining the look" of a CF hood with hood pins, then you bought the hood for the wrong reason.

 

Unfortunatly for you Padawan, I'd say close to 90% of people with carbon fiber hoods, didn't buy them strictly for performance. And if they did, it was a waste of money. Seeing as there isn't a company that currently makes a 100% Carbon Fiber hood for our cars.

Just because it's a cosmetic mod, doesn't mean you have to bash the people who want them. When someone in kill stories posts something slightly unbelievable, do you think ever saying "oh, but i've got a carbon fiber hood" saved them? Of course not, because people know that saving 50 pounds on weight reduction isn't that big of a deal.

If you had a honda, and you were really looking for weight reduction on your race car, then you would have an entire fiberglass body, and you wouldn't be messing with expensive composite carbon fiber hoods that weigh not even 5 pounds less than a good fiberglass hood.

 

I apologize if I came off as bashing anyone, as that certainly wasn't my intention. My only point was that, IMO it doesn't make sense to sacrifice an inexpensive added measure of safey in the name of looks when the underlying modification was not originally intended to be a cosmetic one in the first place. You're right though - I'm sure many people who purchase CF hoods are only minimally concerned the their weight-saving benefits.

agreed! Think of hood pins as insurance.. we all have it... Just in case ****...

I am going on a diet to loose weight vs a CF hood... lol
