Default JDMCARBOY Claims waxing my 5 day old CF spoiler caused its damage.Opinions please.

I purchased a CF duckbill spoiler from jdmcarboy. I installed the spoiler on 5-21-04. I washed it after the install to remove any dirt and fingerprints and then placed a light coat of wax on it to protect it from the elements. 5 days later my wing has 2 bubble spots on the finish. I took pics and sent to jdmcarboy and explained to him the problem. He claims I caused the problem by waxing the spoiler. In that by waxing it, I removed the clearcoat. I'm asking for a refund or a replacement spoiler. Opinions please, am I wrong here?

I was washing my car today and I noticed them. They are about the size of your thumb. I'm kinda pissed about it. I can't believe that waxing it once could cause the damage. I wanted to purchase a CF hood but now I'm having second thoughts.

Thats weird. I don't think thats what caused it unless the wing was JUST clear coated right before it was shipped to you. The bubbles I would think are moisture being released, but I am only taking a guess. I have waxed CF hoods before and never noticed any bubbling.

That's kind of my point. I know people have waxed carbon fiber hoods/spoiler etc. without any problems. How else are you suppose to care for them. It's not like I used some heavy duty stripper/compound. I just used a light coat of wax to protect it. I love the way the spoiler looks. But now I'm kinda wishing I hadn't bought it. I had thought about getting a plastic one and having it painted. But the CF ones are just a bucks more and I like the way it looks minus the bubbles or whatever they are.

yes wax will damage it. certain resins can't be waxed... like the benen stuff. I'll buy your wing off you for $20 since it 'looks' bad.

Well Jdmcarboy stated that the spoiler has clearcoat. To my understanding the clearcoat is used to seal and protect. I used a simple modern wax made by Bluecoral. It wasn't a compound. I've owned many toys. I've never had a problem with any of my cars,trucks,motorcycles, jet skis or boats I have ever owned to have a problem with damaging the paint or gelcoat by simply using carbo wax. It just not gonna happen. If there is a problem with using wax on the item's he's selling. He should place a warning or something on or with the item stating not to wax it. I mean it's going on a car that a person is going to wash and wax. At least I hope if you care about your ride.

Make them exchange the hood for another one. If they dont then burn their shop down. (j/k)
Thats just bad business for them not to inform you in the first place that you wasnt suppose to wax the hood.

The clearcoat didn't stick to the wing. Had the same problem with a CF Hood, take a razor to one of the bubles and you'll see that it peels up, then scrap all of the CC off, then respray it, but with a tougher sandpaper.

Either that or you had some sort of chemical on your thumbs and when you installed it it damaged the clear coat.

Well it sort of depends. Fresh paint and clear takes a while to harden, so if it was JUST done, I can see it possibly damaging it.

HOWEVER, his explination does not make sense. If you striped the clear coat, it wouldn't bubble, it would be gone.

I have seen what clear coat looks like when it bubbles on a automobles paint. This is different. It's bubbled up but there doesn't seem to be any air underneath the bubbles. I'm leaving it alone for now if they burst I'll try and have it repaired. The seller refuses to replace or refund my money. He stated that once I installed it he won't exchange or refund my money. He offered me a discount on some more items I had inquired about before the spoiler showed signs of cancer. I of course declined.

wax dosent cause paint to bubble, its the chemicals in the paint reacting to the cf causing the bubbles

I have pics but unable to post them at this time. One pic which isnt very good is on JDMcarboy classified add on honda-tech. Just search for Cf duckbill spoiler. It's on the last page. Actually JDMCARBOY has just now stated the manufacture is willing to give me a replacement spoiler after they inspect the one I have. I have to make contact and see whats up.

Yeah that's pretty much REDICULOUS. I have waxed my carbon fiber hood from BodyKitsNW just about every time I've washed the car INCLUDING the day I put it on for last year or so and have had no finish problems.

That = retarded!
