GSR vs. 328i
I want to sell my GSR and get a 328i. The 4 Door model in 5 speed. My car right now is a GSR w/ GReddy turbo, JDM front end, ITR seats, springs, sways, yada yada yada. Its pretty quick and everything, but I just want to move on to a more classier car.
So how does the 328i compare to a stock GSR in speed and handling?
Thanks!

handling is great
it's a bmw and is rwd---thas really all i can say...
it won't be as nimble, but will have some crazy torque etc...
it's more of a tourin' car if u feel my flow...
the gs-r should be quicker in the 1/4 or about the same.........
i heard that the 328i should do 0-60 in 6.7....but i have yet to see this

bmw 3 series really arent that fast until you move up to a M3..
and i'm not sure where you live.. but where i live bimmers are so common now that you will get more looks with a nice looking import than you will with a stock bimmer ..

i say keep the turbo teg. it looks better in my opinion when u have the jdm front and big shiny intercooler that just says "hey i have turbo...cooool guy"
I didn't get the JDM front end and turbo to say " im a cool guy look at my car"
from the outside my car looks stock anyway. no intercooler, stock rims, no wing. I want a car where Im not going to do serious mods on, just decent speed and looks right out of the box. Who doesn't like a Black E36 with 18'' Hamanns anyway? I know for sure if I keep my car, Im going to build the engine and get a Drag kit.
Your turboed Teg will smoke the 328. But I do feel you on the classier approach. I think a lot of people that don't understand cars or who are not into all out speed/performance will look upon the BMW as being a nicer car.

anyway, if you were into competitive driving Turbo B18C, I'd warn that the BMW is probably a more expensive platform, but judging by your turbo, you're probably more interested in street. So in that case, heck the insurance on the BMW probably is about the same as the 'teg anyway!
WELL THE 328 is a more refined and smooth ride..its quite and it has a smoothe powerband...it wont be anywhere as fast as the GSR with what you had on it but it is a BMW!!!
My buddy has a '97 318ti (compact), and I routinely kill him on the backroads. I don't think there's much difference between the 3 series models, aside from the number of doors and the engine. He only has 140 hp with the 4-cyl , although he's considering getting one of those bimmer straight sixes from the M3 in it. Only mod he'll ever need!
It's cushy, but handles well. Almost as good as my GSR, but not quite. Seats aren't so good, and the interior is pretty spartan. Nice trip computer. Manu-matic. California top (full sunroof, almost a convertible, expensive option, nice). Alloys. I like, although I wouldn't trade my GSR for one.
So I say it depends on your tastes. Do you want raw or refined? Ballsy or classy? It's all a matter of taste, brother. And insurance rates...

KEEP THE GS-R Turbo! I personally won't get a 3 series BMW, unless it was an M3. 5 series are nice, and 7 series are juss REALLY High class (Expensive as HELL). But seriously, a JDM GS-R looks very nice, and you're car should perform VERY well.... I'd personally keep it...
lets see.. one of my friends has a 2001 M5 and his sister has a 318ti hatchback. another friend has a dinan supercharged 1999 M Coupe. i have much respect for BMW's although they are outta my price range. if you are gonna get a 3 series and cant afford the M... get the 330 at least!
sell me your turbo for cheap while you are at it!

Manual 330's are pretty badass, esp the coupe
A manual 328 should be able to stay close to a GSR if the driver is decent, and a 330 will pretty much beat the GSR in all cases.

Yes, I know we're talking about the 328i..sorry
I've heard that the 1.9L 318ti is 140hp, and I've also heard that it's 159hp...
But anyways, the 318ti is more of a poor man's true bmw. It has real bmw fit and finish, and it's nimble and somewhat quick. It's a classy/sporty car.
I like my 318ti, but I miss my GSR everyday. Oh well, I think it's good for me to get out of the Honda family for a bit, until I finish school.. heh heh
The m3 swap is supposed to be very very good.
What if you got a 318ti, then dropped the m3 motor in it, instead of getting a 328i? You can find a high mileage 318ti for around 10G, and the swap should be just around .. 8G? I don't even want to ask, it must be a shitload

I totally understand you what you mean though. As one gets older its only natural that a person would want to move away from a car that mostly young people drive. They would want something along the same lines, but refined. This is the main reason we see the RSX the way it is today. It was designed for all the hordes of maturing integra owners that were moving to other cars just to be more "sophisticated", but losing performance at the same time (in the case of the RSX, I'd say most of the improvements asthetically were done to the interior to give it that "refined/sophisticated" look.

I dont want to do any sort of "major" mods to the BMW since I would not be able to afford the maintance on them, so an engine swap and turbo is way out of the question.
In that case get a black teg, sporty during the day and classy at night.
Get a black Integra? Guess what? It is black...
it's actually some sort of Lexus black, I got it painted.
