Help, I’m having hot start problems…………………
When it’s hot like 70+ my car has trouble starting. It will turn over and maybe on the second try it will start up and cut off and after a while it may start. And when I get it started it my engine revs loop and ideals around 400 or 500 rpm’s. I searched nothing came up. I replaced the fuel filter, ignition coil, dist. cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires and I keep having the same problem every day when it’s hot. I’m about to replace the fuel pump Thursday. I can’t think of any thing else that could be causing the problem could some one help me or give me an idea of what could be wrong????????????
you might need to replace the main fuel relay. that happened to me the past summer. i took it to my mechanic and told him i think it was my main fuel relay, he changed and i havent had a problem yet. there have been some extremely hot days here in cali with summer rolling around, but i have not faced the problem.
I didn't have time to take the one off my friends wrecked gsr. So I found a link for a diy on team-integra on how to fix the main relay:

anyway I plan to go to acura and get a new one soon.

Why dont you use your helms manual and properly test your main relay before you go spend $50 on a new one.

But yea, its probably the main relay. Hondas are known to have relay problems.

Reason being I did a really bad soldering job when I re-soldered the cracked connection on the main relay and knowing my luck I fixed it for the time being so I rather get a spanking new one. And I don't need to test it it was the cause of my problem's. After I re-soldered that cracked connection on the main relay my car starts right up now.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and not that car savvy. I am having the exact same problem (doesn't start when outside temperature is 75+ or parked in sun on hot summer days) with my 92 Integra 1.8RS Hatchback(153K,MT).The car runs fine, spark plugs are new, battery is in perfect condition, and not a single problem if outside temperature is low. It seems from this thread discussion(thred id=868099)that main relay is the problem. However, I'm confused
, whether it's 'main electrical relay' you are talking about, or 'main fuel relay' ..or both of them are same? Secondly, how can i check whether main relay is the problem. Where is it locateed in my Integra? I spent already significant amount to solve this problem, and none of the mechanics could help me.Think I need to check it myself..please help.
Also where in Baltimore can I do the soldering job on the relay if it turns out to be the problem?

The main fuel relay is apart of the electrical main relay. It sends the signal to your fuel pump to tell it to start pumping. And for your DA with 153k on it you should go get a brand new one and throw it in there.
OK cool I got some info on DA's ok here's a link that should help you out ok :: http://www.g2ic.com/tegtips/engine/18.html

Thanks spd4tegy for your input. I am going for a new one instead of just resoldering the old given the age of the car, should fit in in couple of days.
And thanks for the wonderful link.
Didn't know about such a cool community of Integra lovers.

I replaced the main fuel relay of the car, and the problem is solved. The car is running fine now and never fails to start at even 90+ temperature. Thanks a ton for solving the problem. This is a great forum for newbies like us.
