WOOHOO!!!! (Atco tonight)
Just got back from Atco Raceway. What a night. My hatchback is having problems with the head right now (head gasket or warped head), but Paul (FIxAlpha) said I should go run the car anyway, so I did. First run, I cracked a 11.47 @ 118.8MPH!!!! I was like YEAH!!!! At the end of the pass, my car smoked. Coolant came out of the overflow bottle. I knew it was going to happen, because it's been happening lately. Anyway, I refilled the radiator and made a 2nd pass, and the car jearked hard to the left on the launch, but still managed to pull off an 11.53 @ 118.1MPH pass. Right at the end of the pass, I saw a WHOLE LOT of white smoke behind me. I knew it has something to do with the cooling system. Got back to the pits and saw that the upper radiator hose popped off the radiator. I am using a stock upper clamp, and I guess that didn't hold too well (along with the extra pressure of my head problems). Anyway, put it back together, filled it with water, and went to go make a 3rd pass. That pass, in the middle of 3rd gear, abotu 1.2 track, I heard a little pop, then felt as if the clutch was spinning, because RPMS rose really fast, so I feathered the gas and got traction again, and continued on. When I went to shift 4th, I saw that the right front of my car was smoking REALLY BAD, but I stayed on it. Ran 12.1 at 115MPH on that run (low MPH probably because I feathered the gas half track). By the time I got back to the pits, I had maybe 6 officials bitching me out. First they said because I blew something, it's making them do more work. I apoligized for that, but it was beyond my control. Then they bitched me and Pual out all over again for running too fast without a rollcage. They remember Paul's car from last week running 11.80's. Gave us the whole lecture about if a car rolls over doing 11's without a cage, we're dead, yadda yadda yadda..... Later on they said we're banned from Atco for a year. I was like OH SH*T. Not sure if it's for the rest of this year, or for 1 full year. They said we're getting something in the mail about that.
Anyway, it was a funny night. I guess we have no choice but to get rollcages now. More money out of the pocket....

I kept on calling Terry that day asking him if he wanted to run. I knew about his cooling problem, but he's been having this problem for almost 2 weeks.
It was gonna be a cold night at atco, and knew his car was going to run well. So we finally decide to go and we got there at 8:45 and still got 3 runs.
Every run, me and Terry ran, of course he was always ahead, and I witnessed all the smoke coming out of his car 20ft before the 1/4 mile. The second to the last one was the worst because I was about 2 cars behind and actually got some fluid on my windshield. That was pretty crazy....however I knew his car was gonna be alright. The smoke was intense, seemed like he blew a head gasket every pass. The lady who gives the timeslip, everytime we picked it up, she would always tell me "why is your friends car smoking like that, I don't think it's supposed to do that". You have to picture this, The smoke around his car is so big that it seemed like theres a fog in front of my car when he stops and picks up the timeslip.
I still can't believe we are both banned from atco. The track officials said we are going to receive an official letter in the mail stating that we are banned from Atco for a year....im gonna frame that when I get it.

My turbo setup consists of a T3/T04b, 60-1, HKS intercooler (for a Supra), custom piping (turbo connects to intercooler endtank, then out to 2 small pipes before the TB), HKS race blow off valve (going to be replaced with the HKS egg-looking one soon), HKS standard wastegate (10 pound spring, only boosting to 9.5psi), Kooks equal length turbo header, 3" turbo back exhaust, missing link, Vortech FMU (8:1 disc, with 3 small holes in the vacuum line), RC 370cc injectors, Walbro intank fuel pump, Apex VAFC, stock '95 GSR ECU.
I weigh 145lbs. Car with me in it weighs between 2442 and 2480lbs or so, depending on how much gas is in the car. This is with full interior and some garbage in the car.
When the hose popped off, it was water and a little Redline water wetter. It smelled a little weird, and the track official swears it's all antifreeze. Water wetter isn't slick like coolant. They were just pissed because it was late and they had to roll the track cleaning truck out.

nice times, especially for atco. Home of the wheelspin. You guys lucked out. A friend of mine ran an 11.90 last year in a 91 teg and the state troopers asked him if he wanted to be punched in the neck or kicked in the head, then threw him out of the track.
congrats on that man! that's hot ****... 11.47 with a blown head gasket.
and don't sweat being banned from Atco... that is the greatest honor one can get... getting banned for running too fast. they should have a ceremony for you two.

Thanks again everybody for all the support. I took this being banned from Atco thing as an honor. When I get the letter from Atco saying I'm banned, I'm gonna frame it and put it next to my trophies. I thought winning the NHRA triophy was a big deal, but I guess this one ranks right up there with it
Anyone know of any dragstrips in the NJ area that aren't really **** about running 11's without a cage? Doing the head gasket this week. Want to get some better timeslips.

You have to run a cage at any track if you're doing 11's. Its a liability thing. As far as them getting pissed off at you for having them clean the track that is understandable. You're delaying runs for everybody and these gotta go out and work when they probably didn't want to. An unsaid law among racers is if you're smoking and leaking something stop and pull over right away don't leak it all the way down the track..
I do feel bad that the car was smoking down the track. It's totally understandable, since it's more work for them. Nobody likes working.
As for running 11's on no cage, I guess that's not gonna happen anywhere. Probably do a little 4 point thing just to pass tech inspection.

DUDE THAT IS BAD AZZZZZ, I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE 11.6 ON SUN BUT THIS IS HOTT. THATS FUNNY THOUGH ABOUT THEM KICKING YOU OUT .

I'm gonna try to get a cage done soon (a friend has an autopower 4 point bolt in ghetto rollbar). Might try that and more boost and see what happens
Anyone know if Englishtown is still opened for Wednesday nights?

Congrats on the run...What size slicks are you running? an LSD? What's your suspension setup consist of?
As for the roll cage, NHRA rquires a 6point rollbar for cars doing 9.99 and slower...It shouldn't be that expensive. I'm getting mine custom made from mild steel for 500 bucks. My bar will be NHRA legal. You have to make sure that the one doing it will make it to NHRA specs...
Also, I don't quite remember, but I think you need a 5point harness too...

I am running 22x8x13" slicks on Lenso drag wheels (13x7.5) Stock GSR tranny without LSD (open diff). My suspension is super ghetto fabulous. It consist of Eibach sportline springs (I think it lowers the front like 2", rear like 1.5" or so), stock Civic shocks, and no strut bars anywhere on the car. The car rides soft as hell. Definitely not a race suspension setup.
If I get a cage made, it's definitely going to have to be chromoly. The regular steel ones are way too heavy. I'm just going to use the Autopower one for now, unless I get some killer deal on a chromoly one.
They told me I need a rollbar (pretty much any bar in the car will do), 5 point harness, and a fire jacket. At some events, they require a scatter shield for the bellhousing too.
