there seems to be not too much info/pics on this exhaust around, so i thought i'd make this post for reference.
EDIT: sound clips on page 2!!

Just picked up the exhaust. not the nicest box, but it'll do... i guess!

it came all nicely packed up, with genuine tanabe plastic bags and exhaust tip scuff protector.

the muffler is shiny. simple, straight cut non rolled big *** 4.5" tip

stock vs. tanabe cat back

hardware, gaskets, sticker, info papers

straight through muffler perforations

fishscale resonator

muffler welds

installed!

I'll get some vids so you guys can hear it too soon. Its really deep sounding, and while not quiet, its definitely not loud either. I can barely hear it if i don't apply much throttle while cruising on the freeway.
I'm running a gsr motor and cat, so a very short extension (~3"-4") had to be fabbed up to get this catback to bolt on. There is a bottleneck as well, just after the cat, which really is unavoidable for a bolt on system. Also it is full stainless steel, and much lighter than the stock exhaust due to the thin walls. The piping is 60 mm diameter.
One bad thing: I had to cut the bumper where the tip sticks out. It was touching, and melting the bumper. I've spoken to one other member on ht about this, and his touches as well. sucks. it was easy enough to cut with a dremel though. I'll post a pic of where i cut it later on.
And just for ***** and giggles... i took my car into AEM a few weeks back so they could test fit one of their hybrid intakes, and it fits really well! They gave me a new lower tranny mount that is thinner for more intake pipe clearance. The guys there was really cool too, Jon and Tyler.

new brass colored mount.

it was $479 at Group 5 motorsports. They usually sell it for $500 or something, but they will price match for you. I showed them the price at robear racing.

Nice !
You knew that magnaflow full ss mandrel cat back 2.25' with the one you dont have to cut your bumper cost 50% of this ? they even give you a test pipe, all gaskets and bolts, stickers and a limited lifetime warranty ?
I dont want to be an ***, i am just wondering why this instead of equal quality/even better for half the price.

yes, i knew. I did a lot of shopping and comparing and thinking and considering, and in all honesty there is no quantifiable justification for the price difference. I went with this one because of other reasons, like sound level, looks/style, etc. What i especially like about this exhaust is the offset tip that helps tuck the muffler under the bumper.

I'm the other guy on here that has this exhaust. The reason why I chose this exhaust is because I wanted the old school look (if you're a noob, you wouldn't know what I'm talkin about), the deep sound and the way it looks. The reason why I didn't save money and bought a cheap exhaust like magnaflow is becuase I HAVE THE MONEY to spend. Well anyways, here's a pic of it on my car.
carsaregood : interesting answer, thanks for understanding my statement correctly.
as for you, Synergy001, Magnaflow exhaust are as good, not even better then the stuff you paid twice the price. I wish I could just show you the catback

I would definitely consider having this resonator replaced with a less restrictive, perforated-core design. The rest of the system looks good though.

Oh by the way....I only paid $399 shipped. I think it was well worth it. I've had many custom exhaust setups before but never satisfied as I am now. I don't like the ugly bends that muffler shops do because at the bends the diameter of the piping gets smaller. Plus, its a lot more fun when you get to install your own exhaust. carsaregood tried to get the exhaust at the same price but they wouldn't budge.

Magnaflow Mandrel bent (not crush bent like you think) 2.25 inches diameter 100% SS mufflers are approx. 250$ USD shipped and fits as good as your tanabe.
Anyhow, gday

but for $149 more...why not get a better brand. well anyways, its just like gettin rota c8's instead of mugen mf8 wheels. well its really up to your budget and preference. i dont know which exhaust is better unless they get dyno'd. but anyways....i wont regret how much i spent on this exhaust. its quiet and performs much better than stock.
