CRX Fresh Paint Buffed Out - Two Fresh CRXs and a Civic We Painted Yesterday
Continued from my wet sanding thread...

Yesterday we spent a couple hours buffing out the front end of my car, I figured I'd give you guys an update and show you some other work we've done this month. We buffed with a wool pad and a cutting compound and then went back over it with a foam pad with a swirl eliminating compound. The finish is far from done, it got difficult to see your working area in the dark garage.
Before you flame please be advised of the following. None of these cars are daily driven, they are just cars to go out and have fun in. No paint job you'll see here cost us over $500 in supplies. The myth about you can not touch up chameleon is far from the truth. If you know your gun settings and the ratio you mixed at it will flip the EXACT same after being touched up. Our paint jobs have a lot of flex agent in them to reduce and chipping and scratching. These are not take your car to the custom shop and pay $5k for a choppy chameleon job, these are our own cars that we slaved over every inch of their bodies. Everything that is shaved is patched with metal welded shut, grinded down and glassed over. If anyone is curioius we use all PPG products. With that in mind, all comments positive and negative are welcome... Click pictures for larger views.
This is my own car, 90 CRX Si, purchased for $1,000. Ro_ja Formula 5 wheels, Wings West, Civic Rear Door Handles, B16A Engine, Custom Turbo Setup, Currently switching over to Uberdata and still putting the car back together. We painted this one two weeks ago. The color is Cyan to Purple.

Yesterday we painted our friend Jeff's 2000 Civic Si. This car was completed in two weeks. We painted his car silver to green, he has a carbon fiber lip that will be going on, the hood is carbon fiber and taped off in the middle so the sides are painted, then we cleared the whole thing. He also has a carbon fiber grill so the front end should look pretty crazy. He has the stock B16A2. Currently it is sitting at school, when it comes back we're putting on his drag 3 kit, switching to OBD-1, running uberdata, and putting his car back together.

The next is my buddy Garrett's car who is also taking body shop classes. He is actually on this message board, his name is HarloRex. He is becoming the best at body work and painting and really gets the majority of our work done. His car was the first done and it is going back to school on Monday to touch up two spots where the product didn't stick. This sucks because at his house is a B16A, and a brand new custom turbo setup that is just waiting to go in. This car will also be on Uberdata. We just ordered Techedge 2.0 and a Willem burner. His car is Red to Blue. Currently sitting at his house waiting to go back to school on Monday to fix the paint job, then back to his house for engine and turbo.

This all started as a project with our two CRXs to make them both have my engine setup which was a B16 Turbo with custom manifolds that my dad makes, and mix in the looks of his old car which was a chameleon integra. The whole process took about 3 months while we were learning. In these pics neither car is wetsanded or buffed so they will both be a lot more shiny and gain a lot more color.

We're planning on opening a paint shop in the near future, we were going to put down money and the perfect shop last monday but the landlord fell through and rented it out to a family friend. Now we're back to looking for a place to work. When that happens these three cars will being will be great advertisments at shows, it's actually works into a good business plan.
That 1st CRX looks really, really good! "Clean" outward appearance without any really ugly front ends or giant aluminum rear wings that most people associate with the chameleon paint jobs. I like it!!

It's actually a nice day out so it looks like we'll finish buffing the Cyan to Purple CRX, I should have some pics outside in the sunlight a little later.
They are the ****. I love the chameleon look. It reminds me of that turbo Signal Auto Ek. Props for painting your own **** , I do it too! How much does chameleon paint cost a quart? I might paint my project crx that color with my white te37's.
Looks good scott. Did you mold the sideskirts into the body? also did you just use the 3m tape that comes with the kit or addes something else?

Ooops, I'm on Garrett's name, this is Scott:
Quart!?! Ha, it actually is pretty expensive, for PPG you have to buy it by the ounce, and an ounce does not go far. House of Kolor sells by the quart and just the chameleon layer cost around 400.
The side skirts were molded and the door caps were pushed all the way up, it actually flows really well together. The door caps were put on with Fusor which is a lot stronger than tape. The side skirts were molded with a product that is made specificlly for cover body seems.
