FIA homologations voided
Anybody notice this? I've got a Corbeau Forza and it's on the list of seats whose homologations were voided in May's Fastrack. Doesn't matter for me but anybody who's using a Forza, or the others on the list, (and is actually racing as opposed to cone dodging and HPDE-ing) without a brace might want to look into getting one.

I didn't see the notice but I don't think that SCCA can void FIA's homogation. I imagine that this notice came from the FIA and SCCA is just passing it on?

Hmmm, the information sounds confusing. I guess I will have to go pull that Fastrack. What would worry me more is why was it "voided". Can't pass the safety standard?

Makes me want to look up the FIA standard on seats to see what it requires. With this thread I at least learned that Fastrack is online now. Don't have to keep up with all the paper inserts in Sports Car now.

The SCCA was just passing on the voided homologation numbers in Fastrack, they were voided by the FIA first or else their FIA homologations couldn't have been voided.

yep.. just cross checked against the FIA Technical List 12.. It appears that all Corbeau seats that were formerly homologated are no longer..
time to add a brace I guess.. precisely what I was trying to avoid..

ALL of Corbeau's seats punted out at the same time, huh? I wonder what they found out about them... Or who Corbeau pissed off at FIA...
Is there any way to find out? Maybe I'll give them a call.

Well I called and didn't find out much. I talked with Spencer there, and he insisted that it was a matter of Corbeau not paying for recertification in time. I asked when they would be recertified, and he said "who knows", "could be weeks or months".
On a related note, I have had serious problems with the Corbeau slider seat brackets, and if my experiences are typical, their brackets are not even safe for the street. IM me if you want to know what I found.

I talked to Corbeau about this and they said that their seats are going thru re-testing by the FIA. They aren't sure when they will be approved again. From what I was told, it has nothing to do with the FIA all of a sudden saying their seats are no longer safe. And just an FYI, the Forza's are now coming with the threaded hole on the back like the Forza II's and FX1's.

Did they actually decertify seats that have already been approved, or are they not certifying newly made seats?
My homologation number matches the one listed for the Forza, so I'd guess that it's anything bearing the homologation #'s that were voided.

From my understanding, all Forza seats will now need a seat back brace even if you bought the seat in the past. On older Forza seats, there is a plate on the back where you can have a nut welded to. All new Forza seats will have this already.
If you have questions, you can contact Corbeau direct. They are very good about answering questions.

well, hopefully at some point they'll get re-certified and I can not worry about the brace..
thanks for the info brett.. funny that I had just bought a pair from you like 2 months ago..

I don't understand how they can de-certify a seat that's already been certified and tagged.
If it was compliant two months ago - what's changed? I understand that Corbeau can't tag new seats, but my feeling is that once the seat is approved and tagged it should forever hold that certification.

you would think so.. especially in this case since it seems more that Corbeau just had a bill payment error and nothing was actually to be found wrong with their seats..

It doesn't make much sense to me either, but they decided to list the back brace rule right before they mentioned the homologations being voided, as if to remind the reader what it means for the number to no longer be valid.
