Default Discussion on Flywheels

I'll be installing a JDM FD this winter, and I have an Exedy organic with about 3000 miles on it. I know I should throw the flywheel on while the tranny is out, as I don't plan on having to drop it again, this will complete my driveline mods. I heard about some flywheels having problems with the gear teeth. I thought it was Spoon that was mentioned, and also heard they improved their design to fix the problem.

Basically I'm looking for you imput as to what flywheel I should get. I'd like Chromoly (the best right?), and the Spoon is pretty well priced as the chromolies go.

I've read it before, but I'd also like to compare/contrast chromoly vs. aluminum.
Also, if there are any other flywheels for a decent price that you guys/gals have been pleased with, please share your experience.

From speaking with my dealer, I got the impression that they were hesitant to even resurface it, much less lighten it. I was told stories of wapage. However, when (another dealer) installed my clutch, they were confident to resurface the flywheel, told me about they had it done on a "special" stone cutter, as opposed to a brake lathe.

"special stone cutter" = twice the cost in labor.

its like when you buy a used car from a car lot "those arent dents, those are speed pockets"

I have the Exedy race clutch and chromoly flywheel. I do have the starter once in a blue moon, but I don't really mind. It will just need couple of cranking to start it up. But if you're really concern about it, just get the Civic Si(R) starter and the problem's solved.

i think it's the jun flywheel that is having problems with the starter...a friend has it and that 's what he told me.
i'm planning on getting the spoon one myself.

Heh, I just noticed Spoon's website had it's flywheel listed $25 cheaper than some of our vendor-members. Interesting.

Well I have decided on the Spoon, and found it for only $340, I'm happy with that.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Nobody knows ther difference between chromoly and aluminum?

There are a dozen 's in the area with JUN Ultra Lightweight Flywheels, and everyone seems to like them. I have driven 3 of the Type R's w/ these flywheels and I was very impressed. I have one myself on my LS powered EF. Not saying that the other brands are bad, but JUN is definatly a good one.
