That the fucktard that owned it before u never chenger the oil in the car. Looks good on the out side dosn't it? if u want u can run some transmissiaon oil through it, the cleaning agents will clean it up a bit but the best thing to do is to have the head and block take a bath at the machine shop. The engine may be ok it just needs a cleaning, and sorry for the spelling and stuff, im drunk at the moment.

Yeah. my d16 has like 220,000 and it looks better. Mabey It looks like that cuz it sat for a long time?

Japan has a law requiring cars to only have about ~45-60km (30-40k US) on the motors before the Government taxes the owner heavily. Law is enforced due to enviromental issues--maybe because they're on a small island? Anyone want to shed light on that?
So most people in Japan either have newer motors in their cars or they go out and buy a new car. Who is to say if these people even took care of their motors? I wouldn't be surprised if the motors only had 2 oil changes done during their lifetime.

whats the mileage on that?! a friend of mine owned a toyota corolla with the head in similar condition, after a short while one of the oil squirters got blocked and the bottom end failed despite only having 100,000 miles on it..like yours guy before obviously didn't look after it at all...
outside looks sweet.. the inside looks like ***! my 170k old cx engine looked better like that. i didnt change the oil for over 12months and its looked way cleaner.
DAMN, that looks bad.
just clean it up the best you can.... i mean there is nothing you can do, right?
also, try running that " GUNK " engine cleaner through there for 5 minutes, then change the oil.
DUDE, is that a torque converter?

THIS IS NOT TRUE AT ALL!!!
Japan has no such laws, and you will see very commonly cars with over 100K miles on them.
The main reason we get so many used engines and half cuts from them has more to do with the taxes and duties placed on older cars. The way their duties/registration fees works is that is makes it almost cheaper to salvage your current older car and just buy a new one.
It might have to do with them wanting cleaner air, but it's not like the law states that you must give up your car at 40K miles. That's an old trick that importers tell people in order to sell more engines, and it's bullshit.
As for that engine pictured?

I'm sure Steve at Hmotors will help you out judging by his good rep here and other places. I would not put that **** in my own car. Looks like it's at least 100K miles with a very shitty maintenance history - i.e not changing oil frequently at all.

Saved me the effort of writing this out. It comes down to their re-inspection ~2yrs into ownership. Would you spend close to 2,000 dollars for re-inspection? or would you sell it and use that money towards a new car.

Where do you think those chunks of sludge will go though?
Yeah you go ahead and break those clumps of sludge up and let it clog your sump screen in the oil pick up so that the engine gets starved for oil.

Seriously he just bought the engine, so he should be able to send it back - simple as that.
I'd never accept an engine like that. You'd have to tear it apart and put that head and valvetrain in a hot tank in order to get it clean the right way.
Also if the valvetrain looks that bad, what type of shape do you think the pistons, rings, bearings, and cylinder walls are in?
Oil breaks down over time, and that head is definate proof that the owner did not change the oil enough. So if the oil breaks down it cannot protect the bottom end either - something to think about the next time you suggest some snake oil to cure that ****.

Exactly my point
you just bought anew motor spending your hard earned money, and it should be up to your standards
return it / exchange it
peace

yeah very true, my d15b has 85k on it and under the valve cover deposits of old oil are hardly visible, theres a very faint hint of light brown from the oil and thats all. Car has had oil changed every 5000km since new
