Default DIY Homemade Rear Upper Strut Bar!

I'm gonna fabricate my own rear upper strut bar tomarrow for something to do in metalshop

Mad-Mspaint Skills

should i make the "bar" part out of box tubing or round tubing? if i use round, i'll have to put the ends in the forge and flaten them out.
[pic]

and how thick should the "bar" be?

also, off topic, would mounting a small sub-box to the bar be ok? i just need somthing strong to mount it to and be able to remove for autoXing

I say round and just weld a custom bracket to the ends.
No need for flatning. Too much work and welding it to a
bracket would look better.

OEM bars are very thin. There isnt a lot of bend when
they are on the car, more just to hold the struts together
when they try to flex apart. At least thats how the fronts
are.

ps- thanks for the help on the extended strut mounts today nick.

if they turn out nice, id be willing to pay u a few bucks for one ....id use round, but then also use a really thick bar...are u gonna use a pipe bender to make sure theres not clearance issues????..

btw: if u do sell these (even one), u have to come up with a cool brand name/logo and put it on the bar....BLING BLING

OT: i guess the CD5 emblems are a lost cause..oh well....you rock

Are you gonna thread the ends and put studs in so you can adjust the length or will they be solid with no adjustments.

I don't know if you mentioned it, but for which gen accord are we talking about? If it comes out nice and it's made for the 6th gen, I'm willing to buy one.

I am pretty sure he is making it for a 5th gen since that is what he has. Also i have never seen a rear strut bar for a 6th gen but i would be curious to see one.

Emblems...eh, maybe..but i'd cost a bit more because i'd have to make a couple and pick the best from the bunch...they're hard to make...lots of labor

yeah, you're correct. It's for 5th gen. and its a fixed bar made from thick tubing (it's STRONG)...I used triple pass welds

here's the pics (made this in 2.5 hours this morning...minus the time to take out interior and get messurements)

Nice! Thinking of making some for my 98 coupe. But seems like there's no room behind the seats.

lol, there is a slit, I just used a carpenters knife and its really hard to see (plus the bar is blocking it from viewing it)

Powered coating would be AWESOME, i just need to find somewhere to do it in WA.

He said "he hates to say it" probably because he he doubted that it would turn out that well and is now seeing that it is very nice and must give props. If I am wrong I don't care.
