Default ES Motor mounts

Mostly for road racing and autoX applications,, what are your expereinces with the ES motor mounts? I have a 00 Si and when I got it dyno tested a while back, I watched from the outside as it was tested the first 2 pulls, I was amazed how much the motor rocked back and forth, expecially in between shifts. If stiffer mounts were used, more torque would be transfered down to the ground, rather than lost twisted in the mounts. Can you feel this differnece? Has anyone found a better place to buy other than http://www.nipponpower.com for $39.95? Thanks!

lol ,you are talking about the inserts right? I had these in my 89 civ, it didn't take long to install(actually pretty easy) I'm there standing all excited, I get in the car and start er up WHOA WTF the whole car is shaking OMG I must have done somthing wrong! I can't even make out anything in my rear view mirror, oh wait I could BUT there was 20 of everything. My steering wheel was shaking like crazy. I had this little crack on my windsheild after a month of driving with es inserts it went from like a 1/2 inch crack to like a 3 inch crack.

Ok Ok besides the crazy *** shakes the response is AWSOME the motor doesn't move at all, touch the gas and the car sqwats down and goes.I got smart after a while and took all of them out except the rear( which still made a diff). If you have just a track car I would get these.

Well, if you compete in autocross or with the SCCA, those mounts will put you in modified classes. Not legal for SP, Stock or STS. Sorry.

Where in the rule book does it say that the motor inserts are illegal for STS?? The 2001 rule book I have does mention that suspension bushing material may be changed(section 17.8.B) as long as they use the factory attachment points.

I can see the stock classes having that type of limitation but not SP or STS.

I don't have my rulebook here, but I can promise you that they're illegal for STS. The logic being that someone could interpret this as allowing custom motor mounts that would locate the engine further fore/aft for better f/r weight distribution or lower the engine to lower the CG. There's been much debate about this on the STS forums since Neons have a tendency to shred motor mounts, but they like everyone else are not allowed to have a non-stock motor mount, insert or otherwise.

Yes, I beleive they are illegal for STS. I should technically be in SM anyway because I have a toothpick cam (CTR) Got the cam before I got into autoX and wouldnt have done so if I knew that it would have bumped me into such a rediculous class.

Is the vibration really that bad?? So bad the steering wheel shakes and you cant see out the rear view mirror. Ive never heard stories this bad. Also heard there is no problem unless your idle is super low, ie, under 650 rpm

In the beginning the vibration is fairly noticable at idle(600-850rpm). Beyond 850 there's no discernable vibration(at least in my case). I had the complete kit installed and for about 1 month the vibration was fairly noticable, but after that things have smoothed out a lot. Either the bushings are broken in or I've just gotten used to them.

I had the ES mounts in my old car when it was a street vehical. I took them out because I couldn't take the vibration. When I converted it to a race car, I put them back in. They are in my current EG coupe race car. I agree with 95LSS, they seem to mellow a little with age. They do make a big difference when getting on the throttle.

95LS, for the first month was the vibration so bad that the steering wheel and mirrors were shaking? Does the feeling in between shifts and engaging a gear feel better? Anyone found a place better than nipponpower to order?

Yes indeed, just by installing the mounts the shifter engaged SOO much better. You will find this diff more on the older cars with really rotten stock mounts(like my 12 yr old civ), since the motor sat straighter and didn't move around the shifter worked good too.I could tell this because as soon as I took the mounts out the shifter was all sloppy. But honestly unless your car is a full time track car,I don't see anyone being soo hardcore to take the vibration on the street and I drive around with 800lbs rear springs in a 2000lbs car everyday.Go with just the back and front mount it still makes a diff.

The steering wheel vibrated more but not the mirrors. For some reason the vibrations were worse when the AC was on and I was at idle(650 rpms). I had them installed in May 2001 and the additional vibrations are 99% gone. I'm not sure exactly when it disappeared.

I looked at the same reviews everyone else is reading about the bushing kit. Since the reviews were from teeth rattling to slight vibration; I figured the range was due to different cars(years, model) and owner perception/expectations. I've got the complete ES Hyperflex kit installed + the engine mounts and I love them. There's absolutely ZERO play in the steering wheel and the car responds just as fast as I can turn the wheel. Drifting in long sweepers is reduce to almost nil.

Shifting did feel better after it was installed. I also found that keeping the clutch fluid fresh helps the feel and performance. Clutch fluid takes a lot of abuse during a normal drive, plus the cylinder sits next to the exhaust manifold(lots of heat)

I ordered my kit from http:\\cyberauto.com Currently, they're listing the motor mounts for $39.56(94-98 Integra)

Well, ****, I finally got to buying them! A local shop is now a distriubtor for ES so they get tons of just the pieces and they package them at the shop so I got the motor mount kit for $29.00! Anyway, I put the front 2 in and its incredible! The best thing is when accelerating hard and pushing in the clutch to shift, the car dosent jack rabbit forward like it used. The car is totally flat. The feeling is pretty hard to describe, but its awesome. Will get to the back one which looks like a bitch sometime this week.

Just use the rear inserts for the best gains with little vibes.
BTW the rear inserts are the hardest to install.
But if you remove the intake manifold brace it is 10x easier.
