Header/exhaust wrap question.
Is anyone using that header wrap on their headers. I was going to buy some to cool my engine bay down with. My question is this.........i heard that with headers, your valves are much louder b/c the piping is so much thinner. I have had mine for like 6 years and they are showing a little brown to them. I was going to use the wrap in an attempt to quite the noise of my valves. Think that it will work to at least quite the engine noise down?
Also will putting a stock intake back on help reduce engine noise? I dought it will hurt performance since ram intakes give like 1hp gain.
how is your header making that much noise? Header wrap isn't meant for sound, it's meant to keep high temps on the piping which in turn is supposed to assist w/ the escape of exhaust gasses...and lower engine bay temps like you said.
You sure your header is mounted correctly? Headers aren't known for a lot of noise and certainly not for valve noise.
An aftermarket intake will be much louder than stock...to calm that down use your stock intake system.
Go get your valves adjusted or do it yourself if they are loud...might be mildly out of spec

I've never heard of this valve thing myself.
You will find MANY opinions on header wrap. It's one of those topics that can get easily heated. Though a search will yield some decent results, I'll give you my take on it based on lots of reading/research and personal experience.
I have my DC 4-2-1 ceramic header wrapped from the exhaust ports down to the oxygen sensor. I also put on several coats of a high heat paint on it to set the wrap and protect it from oil, water, etc. I have had this for 2 years now with no problems. It works very well for what I want it to do, which is reducing engine bay temps. I can touch my header with the car running without getting burned.
The risks of using wrap are as follows:
The header welds MAY crack because they get hotter than they normally would. This is caused either by bad manufacturing, or an uneven application of the wrap. You know, wrap thick in spots and maybe open spots in others.
The other risk is the wrap trapping moisture and causing the header to rust. I have not had this problem, though my car is garaged the majority of the time. If your car sits out all the time this might be a problem, but the header will eventually rust on it's own and by then you'd be ready for something different anyway. I'd throw a few coats of heat paint before wrapping it for extra protection if you're really worried about it.
Do a search and read some more threads. I have no regrets using it and would do it again. Good luck with your decision.
