Considering they're saying these will be out this fall, you would think they would have a real picture of this car by now. Honda sure is good about keeping a tight lid on things. That's a serious 180 they did there. I could of sworn a few months ago they said they scrapped their plans to go with a RWD RL/Legend go up against Q45's and LS 430's, now they're going AWD. I wonder if they're going to slap a V8 in there as well.
If the car comes out looking anything like the illustrations, it should be a really sharp looking car.

my brother just reminded me that its april fools day.
soooOoo hopefully, honda won't be shittin on enthusiast awaiting honda to jump onto the awd scene. But reading the articles. (good find thx dude) i found the sh-awd to be a combination of atts (prelude sh)+ rt (realtime) -awd that honda has already patented. but that's just me.. it might be even more advanced then i read.
go honda!

Finally Honda put in a AWD system in the car...remember the G2 Legends were supposed to be fitted with a AWD? The longitudinal engine placement was supposed to allow this. They were also planning to put in a V10 in the thing, but that never materialized, either....maybe now?
The MDX has the exact same system, but with different settings.

it would be cool if this car also had a 6-sp manual tranny offering, which hasn't been seen since the G2 legend.
i love my 6-sp, and refuse to give it up.

I got an email from Acura today and they had the actual pics of the prototype RL. THAT THING IS HOT!!!! I thought the TL looked pretty good, the RL looks 10 times better. It looks like they will be going with the AWD, and they're sticking to a 300 hp V6. It says they are supposed to fitted with 4 piston calipers and slotted rotors. I can't wait to actually see one of these in the showroom. Hopefully most of the prototype will make it into production.
I was at the NY international car show today. I saw the Super All Wheel Drive 300 horse RL. Looks sleek. Acura is claiming that their SAWD system is a first in automotive technology. Power and torque are not only transferred between the front/rear wheels it is also electronically done between the left and right wheels, in other words on all 4 corners where its needed most. This makes me believe that the next NSX will be SuperAWD. HOTTT

IMO, its just a more advanced prelude sh version (atts) but for all 4 wheels. so i'm all for honda showing the auto world new and revolutionary technology. and as for the nsx being shawd? i doubt it, MR, lightweight, aerodynamics, and rev'in engine are more then enuf to make the thing turn fast.. look at the nsx today.. it can outrun most cars on tight courses.
also, anyone know if the RL will be fitted with the half cylinder shutdown thing? i forget what they called it... but the accord/tl are suppose to have them. on highway cruising.. the engine only runs on 3cylinder (v6 version) to save fuel... i would assume honda will put this technology into the RL as well... i've also read that another car manufacturer, GM i beleive, has adopted the same technology into their new sedans.

Cylinder shutdown is not new. Cadillac used to have the cylinder shutdown on their old V8's in the early 80's. It was called the 8-6-4 I think. It didn't work too well because early computers weren't powerful enough to manage the engine.

I think it's called Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). HOTTT

i agree. RL's now cost upwards 30's.. that's more than 10g's then the tl, and more than 15g's comparing the tsx.
anyone have a frontal pic of the RL?

I think the RL's will be more into the very high 30's to the low to mid 40's, since TL's go from somewhere between $32-36K.

go check this video.

although its in japanese, but it really helps to understand how sh-awd works tho.
very impressive video. i think sh-awd has overcome all other kinds of awd (4motion, quattro, evo's ayc+acd....) after that all honda has to do is really build some sports car, like implement this to the next generation nsx, or all accord-chassis-based models. i hope there would be some cars have sh-awd with manual tranny lately, since RL must be auto, so plz honda make your step faster
