Ok, yes this has been covered 100x but when searching I found no complete write up so i thought i would do one.

Ok Started by pullin into the garage...


Here's the side markers and the image i used for measurements (thanks to whoever first made it )


As you can see my markers go in to the fender with a round piece, so i adjusted my measurements so that the marker itself would still fit in the same position as stock ones would.

The bottom part of the marker should be 2 1/4" up from the side molding and the very left should be 15/16" of an inch from the door jam. I used a pencil to mark the cutpoint. (these measurements are for jdm or close to look you can really put them wherever you want, this is where i wanted mine)


After measuring I put the casing against the fender to see if it was where i wanted.


Then i unattached part of my wheel well molding


Then i made a slight dimple on the fender with a point and hammer...VERY SLIGHT, just enough so the drill would stay in place. The first hole was very small just enought to allow the bigger drill (made for cutting metal)

Good, ok so now I needed to put a lead wire through the hole i wanted the wires to come into the engine bay to the wheel well, this took some try's but you'll get it, just stick your hand up and try to grab it.

Tape your sidemarkers wires to the end of the lead wire through your hole, and carefully pull the lead wire back through to the engine bay. Now this is the corner lamp bulb harness you need to get...just unhook the bulb from the other end.


Cut the harness off, but be sure to leave 1-2inches of wire still connected to the harness!!! I didn't and it was a pain later.


Next your going to connect butt connectors to the wires coming from the harness...as you can see i cut mine too short and it was a pita.


extend the wired from the butt connector...now i have 3 wires that have power coming from the car, i have the 2 wires from the sidemarker and i have the 3 wires to the corner bulb harness. Now you have 2 options.
wire the side marker to the red and green wires and the light will be on with the corners and blink when turning.
or wire them to the red and black, and it will only be on with the use your turn signals.
I chose option one, cause that's what i wanted. i don't care if it's jdm enough, thats how i wanted em
Use wire caps and screw the 2 sets of three wires together, and the 1 set of two wires together.
I didn't color code my wire extensions, so it may look off


And ding your done with one side!



re-attached your wheel wells and start on the other side...

If this helps 1 person it's worth the hour spent writing this and resizing the images and all that ****...

Well that works for those types of sidemarkers (single round hole w/ 2 screws) but not for OEM or OEM-style sidemarkers, so it's not end all.

And I think you should flip them over so the long end of the beveled surface faces forward

It still covers the wiring with pics...

anyone can figure out how to fit the appropriate marker, it's the wiring most have problems with...and if i'm not mistaken, the oem 3 wire ones, will just all 3 wire up where i only used 2.

 

OEM sidemarkers are only 2 wire, they use the same 194 bulbs that your sidemarkers use.

Good write up Jason. Look like EF style sidemarkers. Goood idea to go with clear ones. Go well with your headlights and corners.

Looks good. I had those same markers before I put in my EK9's. Good thing is, if you ever decide to change em, most of the hole is already cut out and the outside of those markers are just about tye size of the JDM's. Nice How-To...you're right, most people can't figure out the wiring.

Hell no, the dremel is evil when cutting holes for OEM sidemarkers. A metal nibbler is your friend, either hand-operated from Radio Shack or air-powered, a metal nibbler is actually faster, easier, safer, more precise, less messy, and WAY less noisy than a Dremel and those evil cutting wheels.

 

can we get a pic of this metal nibbler? i've never seen one.

and jaysun, i think you need to put something on the exposed metal so it doesn't rust, ie nail polish works good.

But are those wire nutts permanint? I know thats
good for house wire, but automotive is a hole different deal,
and I think those will shake loose after a while.

 

I have wirenuts holding some of my WB02/stock 02 sensor stuff together. Been that way for close to a year with no problems whatsoever.
