Default To thouse with Spoon calipers....

Last night I put on my spoon calipers and also put SS lines all around. I bleed the brakes according to the Helm manual and the brakes are kinda mushy. If I am sitting still I can put the brake pedal to the floor, but while I am driving I only have to give it about half petal and the brakes are close to locking them up. I then bleed the brakes again and got some more air out of them, but they still feel mushy. Is this how they or any 4 pot brakes feel? I don’t think it is right, but I don’t have any more fluid to bleed them again. I ordered some more fluid so when it comes, I’ll bleed them again. Thanks for the help.

Give it about a week. The SS lines probably have a wider diameter on the inside so that could account for it a little.

I remember when I bled my brakes, they felt mushy for about a week but then firmed up real nice.

You can keep trying to bleed them but I think you would be best to just wait and week and see how it feels then. Best way to do it is to have someone else drive the car now and then drive it in a week and they can give you an honest opinion about the feel.

Yea that is what i was going to do. Give it till next weekend and see how it feels. I mean I dont come anywhere near the floor while I am driving, but at a stop I and put the pedal to the floor, kind of weird. Thanks for the help, makes me feel a little better.

If you can put the brake pedal to the floor, it's not right. It either has air in it or it's leaking somewhere.

onyx00 is right tho, everytime I bleed my brakes, it takes a few days before the firm feel comes back. I guess it needs some time for the fluid to completely run through the system? I'm not sure but that's what has been happening.

AssPenny,

I do not have Spoon calipers but just a warning to not put your brake pedal to the floor when bleeding your brakes. You can damage the seals in the MC and they do not sell a rebuild kit. Both myself and a team-mate had to buy new MC's after being bled by an apprentice mechanic at our sponsors shop.

Good Luck,

How do you know if it goes bad? When I was bleeding the brakes I did put the pedal to the floor. Dosen't the brake pedal have a stop that does not allow you to damage anything? If not then that is honda's mistake and I'll take it in for warrenty work. Thanks for the heads up.

Actually, it's not all bullshit, D. I have done stainless line w/ DOT4 fluid on my car(my ONLY brake mods, actually), and the brakes felt mushy for a few days. I was completely positive there was no air in the lines at all, so I'm not sure if there's an explaination for the brakes firming up after a few days.

Also, on my friend's car we did SS lines when he did his 5-lug on his Civic. Same ****. After a couple days it was cool.

BTW, a good tip guys, is it tap the caliper with a wrench while you're bleeding. Makes any tiny bubbles come out.

AssPenny,

When my MC went it caused brake fluid to leak out between the MC (silver cylinder with the fluid reservoir on top of it) and the brake booster (black pot shaped thing attatched to the firewall). If you look under the MC and see fluid dripping down the brake booster you could be in trouble. If it is dry I would get some more fluid and bleed again in proper sequence (tapping the calipers as Mike K. suggested) and see how it feels. I have always felt uneasy about the pedal feel in the R but the proof is in the pudding and the car stops great.

Good Luck,

Victor Penner

Well its been 2 days and the pedal is quite a bit firmer then before. I can still put the pedal to the floor if I push realy hard, but I can't keep it there (kind of like bounce the pedal off the floor). The MC is not leaking at all either. When I get more fluid I'll do another bleed and see what happens. Thanks for all the help guys.
