195/50 vs. 195/55 vs. 205/50 for stock wheels?

I'm posting here because alot of you guys have alot of experience using different tire sizes on stock 15x6 wheels. This is for my stock 94 GS-R wheels.
Currently I'm riding on 205/50 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires, with about 25K miles on them, nearing the end of their life. They have been great, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try them at any autox events or anything (I've only had them a year
). I did use them once at the drag strip.
Anyway, with my budget being extremely limited right now, I'm considering the other tire sizes listed in the post title. 195/50 ES100's are MUCH cheaper than 205/50. 195/55's are a little more expensive than the 195/50's. I haven't decided yet if I want to stay with ES100 or try a different tire. The 195/55 size is of course very limited in good relatively inexpensive tires. 195/50 has a few more choices, and of course there are tons of choices in the 205/50 size.
So what are the pros and cons of 195/50 vs. 195/55? I know the 195/50 tire will make my car sit a bit lower (it's very low as it is, damn POS H&R Sport springs
), but will also raise the effective final drive ratio. Any other thoughts on these tire sizes? I'd like to spend less than $70 per tire if possible.

Yeah I was thinking about those, only $54/tire from the Tire Rack.

I would go with 195/55/15. Any other size will throw off the speedometer and odometer a bit. I heard the AVS ES100s are good tires and come in that size. If you want the best, try Bridgestone Potenza RE010s, but they are expensive at $123 each. I've got those and wouldn't use anything else now.

I'm just finishing off a set of those. If I can't find some Neova's I'll get some more.

i got a set of nitto 450s in a 205/50 for like $54 a piece. they're not bad. i'm not unhappy. they're the best tire i've had, but i haven't had any tire with like a 200 or 220 tread wear rating.

This was my justification for using them as well.

I agree with this. The RE010's are awesome.
I need something cheap for track days though. RE010's are too expensive to burn up at the race track.

yeah, I'm gonna get a fresh set of Re010's for street duty soon...
Have you considered 195/50 Potenza S-03's? They have better wet and dry traction then the Es100's, and don't cost THAT much more...
Unfortunately there aren't alot of hi performance tires to choose from in the 195/55/15 size.

I'm pretty sure the 195/50 S-03's cost more than 205/50 ES100's... I'm looking to spend less than $70/tire.

Then get the ES100 in the stock size 195/55-15. They're about the same price as the 195/50-15 ($2 difference), and you won't be putting extra miles on your odometer like you would with the 195/50-15.

Personally my favorite tires are Advan Neova 195/55/15. I had these on my 15x6 SW388 wheels and they had the perfect grip and response even on wet conditions.

I heard a radio commercial for NTB yesterday stating they were having a sale with their home brand tires starting @ 9$ ea.
Might be a couple dollars more for a size you'd need.

haha yeah that's probably for some 10" or 12" tires for a old Mini Cooper or old Honda N600 or Ford Fiesta or something.
