Default Brake caliper problems, help me get back on the road.

So I've been getting this squealing sound from my rear passenger wheel starting in January. I thought it was a wheel bearing, so I made a post to see what everyone though. Somebody thought I got road salt stuck in there somewhere, and it would come out and go away. Well, the sound went away so I thought I was ok. Well, FF a month, and the sqeal came back in the form of a really bad grind under braking. I check out my rotor, and it's fine. A couple weeks later I check it again, and its starting to get ground up pretty bad on the inside. I got the time to replace my rotors and pads today. As I was putting the caliper back on, I noticed it wouldnt go on without force, and than it was sitting really crooked and pressing the inside pad against the rotor. So I took off the mounting part of the caliper and noticed this:

See how the one pin is fully extended? The other pin is completely siezed. This means that the caliper can't slide back properly, and only one side is free to move. I tried everything I could think of to get the pin loose. Turning with vice grips, hammering, soaking in pb blaster and repeating steps 1 &2 and nothing worked. I can buy just the pins from acura for like $8 for both, but I dont know how they are held in, or how to get the old bad one out. Anybody have any suggestions? I absolutely have to have my car back on the road by Monday.

I'm gonna check the junkyard later to see if they will sell me just that part of the caliper, since I'm too broke to buy the whole assembly.

Here's a bonus shot of my thumb, darn caliper bolt wouldnt come loose, and just as I was about to let go, it came loose and my thumb got wedged between the handle and some metal under the car. It was pretty gross, blood was dripping out a bunch while I was working. It's oozing bloody pus from under my finger nail as I type.

WOW!!!! I just had the same problem when I did my brakes this week.

Here is what I did to fix that SAME problem. Clamp the piston that is stuck in a bench press or vice grips and twist and pull until you can get it out. I cut the boot first because I had bought a new caliper and they gave you new boots. *NOTE* if you buy a caliper from a parts store you do not get the part in the pics, just the rubber boots.

So after probably 15-30 minutes of twisting and pulling on the piston it popped out. I had to clean out the cylider/piston with a Q-Tip. Then I put White Lighting lithium grease in the cylider and kept working the piston in and out until it worked like the other one. Then I replaced the boot and bolted it onto the car. It has been working great since then.

It is repairable just time consuming if it is really stuck in there. Good luck.

i had the same problem on one of minel.

i put it in a vise and beat it with a hammer to get it back to the same size as the other one. do these need to adjust for the brakes to work properly.

please let me know asap.

it's the caliper mount, but the shaft with the dust boot needs to slide, or the caliper wont move. You'll need to get the rod out, and sand off the rust and lube it up so that it slides freely.
