Default 2004 CRV Gas Mileage

Hi...our new 2004 manual transmission Honda CRV has only about 1,000 miles now, but we have filled the gas tank a number of times....my most recent calculation has it getting about 17mpg. The weather conditions are good, and no real stop and go traffic either. A friend has a 2003 CRV and said his only disappointment has been the gas mileage too. Is there a break in period for the new CRV? The dealer said no!

Can I expect to get the advertised 22-26 mpg? Are there any known issues with the CRV and gas mileage.

All constructive input is really appreciated!!!
THANKS

THANKS, a new CRV owner!

try varying your octane. cause i found that the 1st gen cr-v responded better to 93 octane (25mpg automatic) then manuf. suggested 89 octane (only 20mpg).

also, tsx's use the same engine but more worked, and they get 25-30 mpg. so ask them if you get a chance. yeah, its odd to see 17mpg on a manual. hope you find the problem.

17mpog is really low. My mom bought a 2004 EX automatic this fall and it gets better gas milage than the TL Type-s. You would think its just my driving style inthe type s that gives me bad gas milage, but its not. I get about 25mph (im sure i can get almost 30 if i am easy on the pedal), while the crv on the highway gets about 28 (again, i could get more if i was easy on the gas pedal). New engines tend to get worse gas milage when they are breaking in, but at 1,000 miles it should have started getting better by now.

Hi I am a Honda Tech. You must understand that many factors contribute to your vehicle's gas mileage. I do not think you should be concerned just yet. Give it some time. Your next scheduled oil change is at 5,000 miles so between now and then see if this changes. I believe it will. You haven't had your car much more than one month so I believe this is to early for fuel economy results to be measured. At your next scheduled service explain your findings and concerns or feel free to contact your local dealership at anytime. I know that they are as happy to answer your questions as I am. Good luck and enjoy your new CR-V! It was a smart purchase! It will give you years and years of loyal service!
