I personally don't have any experiences with the V1, But have had excellent results with the K40 Stealth radar/laser detector. I went with the K40 because a friend of mine had it and had an excellent experience with it. It's alittle pricey, but I like the stealth feature and prefer to pay the additional 150 to not have a big black box on my dash. Plus you can't beat their guarantee.

Default Worth it...

...yes.

Alarm, I would recommend Clifford Avantguard

As a backup in case somehow they get past it is a LOJACK, if it's offered in your area.

I also agree, the Valentine One is well worth it's cost... Check out their site at www.valentine1.com to find out more. A nice feature is as the radar technology improves, you can find out which upgrades are available for it, and trade the unit in for the latest, greatest (for a fee of course).
Still, it has saved me many tickets since I've had it...

I use a 170 dollar Belltronics and it's saved my *** a dozen times at least. Valentines are too expensive IMO and don't offer much more in the way of protection.

Then again, I'm the guy who says all these JDM parts are overpriced too, so YMMV.

The Valentine One is the best there is because of these features in this order:

1. Arrows point to where the radar source is coming from.
2. Most sensitive detection of any detector on the market. Period.
3. Counts how many bogies there are.
4. Optional Concealed Display module.

Nothing else has those 4 things. I haven't gotten a ticket since I've had mine, and I used to average one ticket every three months.

I also have the K40, and it has saved my sweet virgin a$$ more times than I care to think about. I agree that the V1 is just too dang big, and while the multiple radar aquisition is nice, I just don't think it is worth the money. The K40 (or you could also get a Bel980, but I don't like the various voice and alert tones on the Bels) has a great sound feature, with different tones for the various bands, and something I really like - a very loud, and distinct "instant on" radar warning. That sound is realiable enough that if you hear it, hit the brakes because you are being lit up from very close by. Additionally, there is a semi-mute function that gives the warning tone once, then just makes little ticking sounds which speed up and slow down depending on signal strength. No need to be looking over at the unit to establish range, you can keep your eyes scanning for the black and white.

The Bels are great, but since it is a voice instead of a beeping/deedle noise that tells you what it is detecting, it can be very hard to understand and hear. My friend has one, and between the two I definitely prefer the K40.

Good luck!

Damn dude! Slow down.

I've got one ticket in the two years I've owned my car. I was paced by an aircraft, something no radar detector will help with.

I have only received 1 speeding ticket since I purchased my Valentine 1, almost 2 years ago...I was popped with Instant-On, sucked. The Valentine 1 has saved my ***, and those that were traveling with me more times than I can count.

i'd get it. I love it. I only use it on certain occasions.
neat thing is that it uses a telephone cord for connectivitiy so
you can mount it anywhere you want. Or if you break off
the connector, jast slap a new one one. nice design

-AoiB0t, who will use his V1 today

Like i said, nothing comes close to the V1. Also, to anyone that thinks their Bel or Escore or whatever detector offers almost the same level of protetion, you are wrong. I have owned about 4 detectors. My dad got a V1 and i saw the performance in real life, i got a V1 the next day and threw my Escor out the window. Trust me, dont waste your $ on anything else, just step up and get the real deal. V1

Well, they've done extensive testing on the V1, BEL 980 and the Escort. The Escort (http://www.escortradar.com) & 980 (http://www.beltronics.com) outperformed the V1 (http://www.valentine1.com) by a good margin. But the Escort squeaked by the 980. To me, the Escort's display seems too confusing, whereas the 980 is very sleek, nice and very easy to read. I've driven from Cali to AZ and to NM and I've sniffed out every cop on I-5 and I-40. The 980 is truely amazing!!! :D

Go here to read the test/reviews... http://www.speedzones.com

V1 by far the best! One time I started to get a signal so I reset the trip meter, 1.9 miles later I passed a cop hidding in tall grass, could barly see the cop car while going by. Thank you V1. With out the arrows or the boggie counter there is just NO comparison. V1 is by far the best!

Other functions that I could care less about. Direction of trap and how many. You hear the alarm go off and you should immediately slow down. IMHO no reason for all the Cutesy stuff. All it comes down to is another way to get more $$$$.

When V1 guarantees that they'll pay a ticket for speeding detected by radar or laser, then I'll believe that they stand by their product like K40. Until then it's a big black box sitting on your dash with a light show. I'm sure it's better than the common BELs and Escorts, but to me nothing beats the K40's performance, stealthiness or guarantee.

i totally disagree. it helps so much, i can confidently know what is going on. Once you use it for awhile you will understand what things mean, and wether or not its a false alarm or a threat. Thats the best part of the valentine is the locator. it's range was best when i saw those test results, but the locator is the best part, imo.

The V1 is the only detector company that will offer hardware/software upgrades as they are available, to owners of older detectors.

It is the only detector (up until the new Escort) that had a rear antenna that works.

The V1's laser capabilities are also very impressive. Here in Vancouver, most of the cops use portable laser units anyways.

Not this debate again.

http://www.speedzones.com/

Factual data, good results.

As an note; pulled over 3 times in last 6 months for speeding; no radar detector being used, just a police scanner, and never gotten a ticket.

Also, keep in mind, you get pulled with a detector, you will get a ticket.

I am hopping (sp?) for someone to come out with a new up to date concealed system. Liek the Escort Passport SR-1, but with new circuitry, etc to make it more effetive.
