Default LSVTEC turbo or LS Turbo

I have an LS that I am about to turbo in my EG hatch! Would it be worth my time to drop on a SIR head and make a LSVTEC turbo hybrid?

Ls vtec motors are high compression b/c the vtec head is smaller then the ls head.......I know a few people w/ ls/vtec turbo and they have either blown or run like ****. I would look at the compression and get internals for an ls/vtec setup or your just asking for trouble.

I will be able to tell you more in a few weeks. I am awaiting my drag kit for mine. If it runs good, cool. If not, it gives me a reason to build the b17.

Yeah, same as above. However now thats it's almost done I wish I sleeved the block. That and the oil pump are the only things holding me back from 400+ whp. As the block currently stands 350 will be the upper limit .

I run a LS/VTEc turbo setup, but I have different pistons. If you're doing turbo LS/VTEC, use a '99-'00 Civic Si (B16A) head. It yields lower compression than a GSR head.

Thanks for all the replies!!

Incognito. What are you using for internals? I want to run 12-13lbs of boost on this motor. I have a 99 SIR head with a Type R intake manifold. Any other suggestions as I only want to do this once! It is my daily driver so I need this to be 100% perfect! What size fuel injectors? I have 340cc's. What ecu do I use? Do I just use the stock ecu?

These might sound like stupid questions but I am just getting into turbos.

itr-481, after your parents buy your turbo for u come find me and i'll show you how fast my 14 is!! i forgot that 9:1 compression was high.. MORON!!

I seem to recall u got beat by a bone stock type-r by like 2 cars, then you u got pulled over by a cop on a bicycle!!!!!!!!!

I had a buddy that had that setup in his 93 GSR, and it was easily the fastest honda in town for a very long time, till he got a little boost happy and blew his motor to smitherines trying to run like 16 psi. That was on stock internals. I think it blew because he wasn't watching his EGT and he was driving on the highway trying to "top it out" or some ****.

It can be pretty reliable if you take your time in researching and do it right.

LS/VTEC turbo is apparently hard core with these guys. They put a Vtec head on and broke in the 11's no problem! Check it out here http://www.tappauto.com/hondapage1.htm My freind and I both run LS turbos in our hatches. He recently did a vtec head swap. At same boost levels and everything, he put down a extra 58hp at the wheels on the dyno at the same boost level, 10psi! Its definaly worth it....but i guess we haev to wait and see how long this motor can hold up. Hope that helps.

Depending on how much money you have, LSVTEC Turbo might be worth it. If you have tons of money, then go for it, after all you can afford it right? But just remember it is expensive

But if money is a consideration, I'd concentrate on doing the turbo properly (no fmu, rising rate regulator, check valve stuff) and get a hondata and some injectors.
Then reinforce the block by getting it decked and sleeved, along with new rods, pistons and so on and boost that baby.

Remember the main principle on which vtec relies on it's power is high compression and cams at high rpms to make power. High compression is definately a turbo no no (not saying it can't be done) and high rpms on the LS block is bad as well (bad rod to stroke ratio). I personally am one that doesn't like to do thing with a sub-optimal setup.

My turbo LS/VTEC setup is running a '95 B18B1 LS block with 8.5 to 1 compression JE pistons, with Crower rods. I have ARP head studs, and a blockguard in it. The head is a stock '00 Si head. I'm only boosting 9.5psi (on the street and at the track), and it's pulling in consistent 115 to 116MPH runs (11.8 to 11.9 in my '93 Civic Si hatchback, 2450lbs, on slicks). I'm running a stock '95 GSR ECU, Walbro intank pump, Vortech FMU with the 8 to 1 disc, VAFC, and RC 370cc injectors. I think you'll be fine with the 340's. The car is daily driven. When I made the 11 second runs, all I did was slap slicks on it. The car feels good on the street (break tires loose at will in the first 3 gears, will spin tires in 4th if shifted fast).

This Jamaican dude at a shop in Newark built my bottom end. He seems to know his ****. I hope it holds up Might have to hit U guys up for a LS/VTEC girdle.

The turbo is a 60-1.

Might try to boost higher tomorrow night to get into the mid 11's.

cool stuff. I will be runnign my ls vtec shortly but being away at school sucks...

Ill be home in 5 weeks so if you want a girdle let me know. Did you ever see Emad run last year in his ls vtec? He would drive to the track on his 25" slicks in that torn the **** up white hatch and run 11.1. He swore all over that driving to the track on slicks is the reason he went so fast... hah, total nutcase.

Either way let me know what kinda times you hit at ~20 psi, i dont know if your fuel setup will take that or not tho, is your block sleeved? Keep that ignition way retarded and you should be ok...

Yeah, that was a close race.. was only running 12's then. We both ran like 12.40's at 115- beat him by like a hundredth.
