Default CRX restoration..anybody has done it?

Ok, so i have this 88 hf that i'm thinking about restoring it. The reason why I said restoring is because the car is rusted beyond believe. typical rusts you see on the crx *plus* the a hole where the spare tire would be. Does anyone here ever done such restoration on their crx before?

I seriously have the same car and the same problems. I ended up just selling it. It was gonna be alot of money cause I don't have the proper tools. If you have the tools its possible. Get some new qp's-new door.weld some sheetmetal on the hole where the spare is(i had the SAME EXACT THING!!!) Get new fenders, bumpers, than paint it. Thats what I was gonna do,but just gave up to look for a cleaner car to start with.

I haven't done it yet, but I will be in the next couple of years. I really don't have any rust, I just want to strip it to a bare shell, and put it back together.

Yup just restore, you just need alot of patience....unless you have money that is $$$, I wouldn't know cause I dont have much of it
But nothing will make you feel better when everything is all said and done, and you look upon a piece that you have created from what you have now!

there was a lot more rust that i fixed that isnt in these pictures....SUCH AS...

1) Both floor pans rusted out had to weld in pieces appox 6" x 10" on each side.

2) Side skirts rusted out to all heck! welded in sheet metal all along the bottom.

3) Areas around winsheild outer trim needed to be cut and rewelded.

4) Holes under and around where spare tire is located.

You name it and I've fixed it on this once big hunk of rust...now she is beautiful however

I say go for it and take your time, have fun with it...even though there are sure to be times you hate doing it. I sure had some.

I bought my 88 hf with the intent of doing a restoration on her, but after two years of no progress on the body, due to time and money. I just recently decided to go another route.

I figured out what my body work would have cost me, then I got lucky and found an STD hatch that has no rust. For a lot less than the body work would have been, I picked up the hatch. Now I'm just waiting for some warmth to swap everything over

i have a HF with over 400,000 miles so i have had a rust problem it was a good project to fix but i ended up doing the whole car. but you can not beat the HF for the weight. i say go for it. it is a good car to learn on and cheap parts 1/4's are only 45 bucks a side. and doors u can find in the junk yard cheap and the spair tire area just use flat stock and then put your battery back there.

lol seriously, i LUCKILY found 2 rear 1/4's for $100 and i had to drive an hour and a half to go pick them up from some kids parts car. One guy around my area wanted $500! for ones that were already beginning to rust!!!

TIPS - take your time and don't mess with rust...if you see it cut more than enough to totally remove it. I didn't want to mess with the whole 1/4 panel being removed and trust my welding to be as structurally strong as stock so i just cut out patch pieces from my "used/unrusted" panels that i picked up.

Also..make sure you treat the INSIDE of the pieces you weld with rust stopper, primer, paint and i even went as far as spraying undercoating on the inside of the 1/4 panels and all my welds (never want to do this job again that's why).

Be prepared to fill and sand a lot when doing something like the rear 1/4's. It takes a lot of time to get the body straight and back to stock looking. In some lighting you can see my work was a tad wavy. Ohh well the body work was free and Maaco 2 stage urethane was on sale for $400. (say what you want my car turned out great, 4 year warranty...i'm sick of people trying to tell me that my car will fade/chip in 2 weeks. If i won the lottery i would not spend over $1000 on paint for an EF unless it was a show car OK?)

That being said good luck, any questions feel free to ask i learned a lot on this project

nice. i'm very **** about rust , and i dont even have much. i just got my car and havent really gotten a chance to give it a good look. i've looked at it as much as i can without a jack and there is a bit of flacking paint ( very minor) on the passenger rear quarter. the driver's side qp has a little bubble. and the bumper support is pretty rust. i think that when i do my body work , im going to take my whole car apart.

Great Job....You are a better man than I for working on your car during winter.

As soon as it gets warm out i to will be sacrificing my nights to fixing a few rust spots. Although i dont have all that much to do, (that i can see for now) i am not going to let it get out of control. I am going to start from the bottom up and find every piece there is and take care of it now
