GearSpeed Y8 tranny install w/Kaaz LSD - lots of pics
Well, the time finally came. Had my Kaaz LSD laying around a while, and then Centerforce DFX clutch. Bought a ACT Streetlight flywheel and energy suspension shifter bushings.
I had purchased a used Y8 tranny for my car, and figured I'd just swap the LSD in and install it in my car. When the used tranny was torn apart, 1 thru 3rd gear was fried, and needed a complete rebuild. Well, luckily my tax refund came in, and the friend who works at a shop, called up his rebuilder and turned out it was Gear Speed, and they build some nice performance transmissions! I had a Y8 rebuilt with carbon coated synchros, had my Kaaz LSD installed, case was painted same color as my car, and all the brakets and bolts are chromed. Gear Speed also gives a 2 year unlimited mile warranty.
Okay...time for the good stuff...pics!
Thanks to Rob (fxrob) for all the hard and quality workmanship!
Here are the install pics:

Well, my first impressions of the LSD are that its cool! I haven't really been hard on it yet, since I want to put some miles on it before I really put it to use. Those 30 minutes of figure 8's had my head spinning at the end! Then changed the fluid and good to go. I must say, it was nice to hammer it down on the freeway onramp and just hook up! I can deffinately feel how it puts down the power in the curves much better than before!
What was kinda strange, is that Kaaz says to do figure 8's to break in the diff, then change the fluid and look at all the clutch material coming out. The fluid looked awefully clean after my 30 minutes of break in! But the clunking noise it was making in the begining is gone, so I guess its broke in!
GearSpeed was featured on overboost.com for their performance transmission options!

Is $1000 a discount price? What did that include? New 1-3, and new synchros, plus clean the tranny and install new seals and bearings?

The fried trans was turned in as a core tranny when they dropped off the new one. I still have my used one up there that a friend is taking off my hands, most likely. So they just took a tranny off their shelf and rebuilt the whole tranny with carbon coated synchros and installed my LSD. Yes, the $1000 is wholesale price. $800 for standard rebuild without carbon synchros. That's the price a shop normally pays for a manual transmission rebuild, then mark it up from there to their customer.

wow, amazing. That is the prettiest darn tranny i have ever seen. Give us updates on how the lsd does at Your first Auto-x with it. Sounds and looks like quite an impressive setup.
