H22 Race Motor, Check out my timing belt setup, need opinions.
Those of you familiar with the timing belt and balancer belt setup on a H22 will be able to tell whats going on here.
I have the balance shafts removed, and the oil channels pluged.
I put the HondaAddict plugs in the oil pump housing. I also have ProDrive gears in the pump.
First notice that I converted to the H23 manual tensioner. WHy? I dunno thought it would be cool. But heres where I am now.
Notice that the crank pulley for the balance belt I cut and grinded smooth into just a spacer.
The tensioner pulley for the balance belt, I pressed it apart so only the center piece is left as a spacer.
The balancer "gear box" I cut off the excess materials no longer needed, and welded over the holes, to form the gearbox into just a block off plate for the most part so there is no oil leaks.
My concern is the timing belt slipping off with no guides. Now... its not like I removed any guides... on the crank I got the inside guide of course... and the balancer belt pulley I did not machine down off the inside "ring" of it... so its just as functional as a guide as ever... however that is the only thing holding it. The H22 doesnt have any other outside belt guides... except of course normally the balancer belt tensioner pulley would be there in the way to block it if it ever really started to come off hardcore... but it should never get that far and the balancer pulley wouldnt make a good guide, it would likely wear and cut thru.
My question is... do you think I am ok, or should I fab up a better belt guide somewhere. I figure there is only one thing holding it from walking into the motor, and thats the inside guide on the crank... so if they feel 1 is ok there, then hmm...
what do you guys think?

i think i might get another one of the guides that goes on the inside, and then put this spacer made from the old balance belt pulley on a lathe and make a groove for it for extra security.
i dunno we'll see i guess.

I agree.............looks good, and you shouldn't have any problems.
actually now that i look at it closer there is a very thin spacer that goes on the back side of the gear, against the block that isn't thier. I dont think the belt will move but if you are worried I would put that back on

boostedh22a: actually i have that inner guide, its just hard to see it in the pic, its diameter is not much larger then the gear with the belt around it.
Thanks everyone for your opinions... I hope it will be ok. The timing belt sits on the cam gears like flush with the outside edge, so it just kinda was freaking me out and i was figuring i should guide it better.
thanks again!
