S2000 Engine Oil Consumption
My 2002 S2000 has 13,000 easy miles on it, and since it was new, the engine uses 1 quart of oil every 3,000 miles, the dealer tells me this is normal, I find it hard to belive, is anyone else finding this to be true?
yeap, especially if you are VTEC hungry, your engine will eat oil.
I'm planning on doing a catch can setup soon in my S, before spring time.
This would prove out, (after an oil change or two) where the oil is going....

Honestly, it is common for any Honda or and CAR for that matter that spends more than a fair amount of time in the higher revs. S2000's are more likely only because the drivers tend to spend more time in the 4-9k range..
Known as "blow-by" or when the oil in VERY small but equal amounts gets past the piston rings and gets burned in the combustion chamber. (however usually never enough to see smoke or ruin the low emissions)
If you want to conduct an experiment, keep your RPM's below 4k for 3000 miles and see how much oil you DONT use...

drive the car as if you had to own it for past 100k miles then that will get you to think before you abuse any car.
FYI, I stopped burning oil after 4 track events at about 15k miles. Started using synthetic oil from first oil change on, contrary to what honda recommends. BTW, mobil 1 tends to be on the thinner range of viscosities compared to redline when looking at 10w30 oils.

razor: just b/c honda says to do something doesn't mean you turn off your common sense and listen to them without questioning their reasoning. If you can show me proof that synthetic oil will keep the piston rings from settling to prevent oil burning after the first oil change, I will eat my words. Otherwise there is no reason why you shouldn't run synthetic oil and wait till 10k miles.
I drive my car like I stole it but I experience no oil loss. Go figure..
Maybe it's because I change my oil every 1,500 miles. Although that really shouldn't have to do with anything...

That is good that you change it that often, I notice a small drop around 1500 - but after 3k it's down a half quart or so on mine..
Maybe it all varies...??

My second oil change was at 3000 miles. I didn't notice any loss there either.
After my second oil change, I started working as a second job at a garage, where access to a lift is cake - from there on figured why not. I paid a lot of $$$ for this car to not take care of it.
I wouldn't be suprised if it varies though. As you know, not all motors are created equal.
