I burn so much oil, it would be silly to use anything but el cheapo 10w30...

i use the mobil 5-30, b/c it burns easily and wont sludge up, hate it b/c it burns too easily, love redline, but too expensive, want to keep using synthetic, is there a moderately priced one that wont burn as easily (my freind in his 99 lude has the same prob)

Well, this "new" motor will get mobil 1 5w-30, the old (rip) motor went through a quart of mobil 1 every 2 sessions... Non synthetic mobil didn't burn as much, only about 1.5 quarts a day

10-30 Mobil one

Less consumption was observed when I switched from 5W-30 to 10W-30.

-who also found Mobil 1 on sale at BJ's for $3.89/qt.
Probably whatever Fauth suggests is A Good Thing since he's a national champion (good to have you here BTW David).
Personally I put 5W30 Mobil 1 in the car - and have done so since it had 5000 miles on it. It does smoke on lifts and shifts (valve guides I'm told) but has 6-7% leakdown. Not bad for 4 years of autocrossing and 20 or so track weekends.

The manuals I have say that 5W-30 is the prefered oil for all temps. It also states that "You may use 10W-30 if the temp. in your area never goes below 20*. 5W & 10W are the winter rates of the multi oils. 30 is the viscosity when it warms up. Using 10W-30 instead of 5W-30 doesn't give you any more high temp. protection.
