Smoking Tails easy?
I have a Black EJ1 (94 Coupe EX). I currently have all clear tail lights on them, I want to smoke them, I read a lot about people buying orange spray, and making JDM corners and what not. Would it be the same process for the tail lights? And would the red/amber lights shine through? How would you go about smoking them?
Well, I don't see why they would be? It has the red/amber lights, and besides... I really don't care, its not a driving offence. Would it be hard to smoke them? How would I go about doing it?

yeah a buddy of mine got them on his 99ex. it looks clean. he just took the back lights off and spray painted right over them. i dont know how many coats or anything but i do know thats how he did it.
you can bake them for like 6-8 minutes at about 215 degrees. that will melt the glue and then you can pry it apart. Tamiya makes a smoke transparent paint (available at hobby stores that sell r/c car paint) and you can just spray the inside of your lenses with that. i know someone did a how-to but i couldnt find it. hope this helps alittle
Yeah, I've heard a lot of people putting their stuff in the oven... I personally don't feel safe doing that... Couldn't I just spray some stuff on the outside?

cant remeber where i saw this but, a guy had a black ej and he used black tint to make his tails have the smoked effect, i guess he bought some cheap black rollatint and put it on there.
Heh... I want these bitches to be BLACK. My car is black, my windows are 5%, I have gunmetal rims w/polished lip... I want this stuff to be BLACK! Could I do it to my corners to?
Just bake them. I was scared to do it too but now that I have done it I would do it again without hesitation. Its real easy, just do it a couple minutes at a time untill they come apart.
Here is the thread from when I baked my headlights last weekend.

usually when painting with the transparent paint. You should just spray one thick coat ( not to thick, where it drips). Applying to many coats as it dries will make it dull looking. Just a heads up.

just to clarify, i believe this post is about smoking tail lights via painting on the outside, not baking and painting the inside of your headlights.

I bought some tint spray... I was told to spray some clear coats on to make it more shiny... Does that stuff go on before I spray it, or after? Do I just keep spraying coats to get it as dark as I want? I want these bitches to match my paint.
clear coat always goes last, after the actual paint has been aplied.
Im thinking if you make it as dark as your car. The red might not show up as visible as it should. Therefore, u might get ticketed? Unless you dont care...go for it!

Stupid **** I've been pulled over for:
5% windows x2
Clear tail lights x2
hyper white turnsignals x1
Never got a ticket, its a non-driving offence, so I really dont give a ****.
