how many of you ppl use the dump clutch method and have axel problems???
everywhere i look and go ppl are dumping their clutches at the track...yall still do that here???
you have axle probs when you have too much abrupt tracion or susp not set up right.
i have always dumpedthe clutch in my car, only broke one set of axles after like 3 yrs, and it broke becuase of wheel hop

I always preload the tranny before every burnout or launch. Before I started doing that axels were going every other race. I also started pulling 1.6-1.7 60's after I started preloading the tranny.

It's a bigger problem when you're staging with bigger slicks as the car likes to keep rolling but normally we just hold the E-brake to keep you from moving too much... So that's all you really gotta do, stage as you would normally then once you've got your light hold the E-brake up just enough so that you can load the clutch slightly... When launch drop the E-brake at the same time...
Preloading is the way to go
ACT six puck, haven't broke any axles yet, and the wheel hop is kept to a minimum.

I had about 15 runs last year and havn't broke an axle on 24.5s using stock axles, I just pre-loaded / slipped the clutch a little bit, and achieved a best of 1.5 60 foot and averaged 1.6s...

Jezz, I need to learn how to do this trick. Sixtydashone had told me about this preload/ slipping clutch technic and he's got a pretty fast car.

8,000 rpm and dump for me. 22" slicks last year, and started using 23" slicks at the end of the year. Same stock axles without breaking so far (knock on wood). Going to try preloading the clutch next time at the track.
Im assuming it take a bit of practice to master it. Such as throttle and clutch position to avoid bogging. I used to do the same thing in my 1st gen AWD to avoid breakage and leave on boost.

will preloading help to get traction or will it just help preserve your drivetrain? also you guys launch in vtec? or somehow disable it? im thinking you would want to be in low cams for a launch. any ideas? im running an ls right now and with the tires on it i cant get traction at all in first. i baby it, then once i get into a strnog powerband the tires light up. 2nd spins bad too, i grab around the middle of 2nd and from there it goes pretty sweet, a lil chirp of 3rd. im going to go get some drag slicks soon. i'm sure i would barely even chirp 2nd at a track but anywhere else all i do is spin. i dont even have much done to it either.
also what rpm are you guys at right before you launch when you preload? assuming you're on slicks.

I've gotten pretty close to the same times using both methods, so I just dump it at 8k, now that I run custom axles, I never break em. Dumb question: Maybe that fact that my car is A/M makes a difference??
With the higher hp street cars you have to slip the clutch... Like Scott and I both said, it just doesn't shock the drivetrain as hard... We've got DSS stage 5 axles in Duc's car making 700whp+ and once you stop breaking axles, trannies start breaking... Main and countershafts usually start cracking/shattering first... Atleast **** doesn't normally break when we launch now (shifting gears takes them out)...
These are the DSS ST5's we run... (=$1600) I'd rather have Mark Williams tho, hehe

and the M.W. (=$5000)

yeah u could spend 1,600 or 5,000 on axels if you are a true baller, or u could just buy some lifetime warranty cheapos from your local auto store for $70 and replace them for free everytime u break em. I've seen some insanely high hp cars running the stockers or remans. Just keep a spare set.
Don't get me wrong, breaking axels at the line isn't fun, but neither is dumping 1,600 dollars on em either! lol

Ya, I know Autozone among others will replace your axles for free if you break them...just don't let them know what you were doing. Seems really cheap and not honest at all, but I guess it what you have to do when you're low on $$. Like mention above, keep an extra set on you at the track so you have something to fall back on if the 1st set craps out.
