this is a specific question to itr owners with jdm itr wheels and 215/45-16 azenis that searching did not remotely uncover:
to those who have specifically 16x7 jdm itr wheels with 215/45-16 azenis, can you let me know if there is room for and additional 1/2 inch of clearance on the inboard side of the wheels against the trailing arm in the rear of the car? i know the 16x7's fit, but i plan on using a 16x8 wheel, and i need to know if there is room for them to fit under the car. i have no fender lip, so clearing the outside is not a problem.
basically, can you stick your hand in between the tire and the front of the trailing arm? the picture below illustrates where the problem area is. thanks.

Sorry to say I am using 215-40-16 so it did not have any problem.
I have intension to buy proper OEM 215-45-16 when these wears out.
This is not a jdm itr wheel, but they are 16x7 with 215/45/16 Azenis and I don't have any rubbing problems

hey mad, can see you if you can stick your hand behind the front of the wheel on the inside? the offset on your wheel is +40? i know they clear, but i need to see how close they are, if there is any more room for a wider wheel. my new wheels (which are not in my possession yet) are one inch wider, with half and inch toward the inside. that is why i ask. thanks.
chet, grind? ouch... i am more worried about the tire being to snug against the inside of the trailing arm. from my number crunching, the inside of the rx7 wheel will be 1/2 inch closer to the inside vs. a jdm itr wheel on azenis. oh yeah, thanks again chet

I think this is clearly the question he is asking. NOT just if the wheels fit without rubbing, he wants to know how much space there is between the wheel/tire and the rear LCA.
Jeez, here and I thought you already knew everything
Nope, I dunno either...

seriously though, i will get them to work, but i do not have the wheels in my possession yet, and would like to know if it is worth it to buy 4 215 azenis or not.

Rodney, don't know if you've gotten the info you asked for, but I have 16x7 50mm offset wheels (but are NOT JDM wheels) which are identical (I believe), with 215x45x16 Azenis, and there is NOT much room there. I went out and could just get my thumb in between, roughly 1/2", if even. Wish I could get my camera under to take a pic, but it is pretty close now as is. (just trying to help-no flames-I know it's anecdotal).

Victor uses 215-45-16 Azenis and JDM ITR wheels. I've had my hand between his tyre and the arm.
The JDM ITR wheels at +50.
If you tell us the offset of the 16x8 wheels you want to use, I think we could more easily tell you if it's going to work.
My opinion from feeling under Victor's car is that if your 16x8 wheels are also +50, then you are going to have a minor issue there.
My Spoons are 16x7 +45, and I do have noticeably more room than Victor has when I'm using those wheels.

I measured less than 3/8 of an inch between there. I setup is what GK said. 16x7 JDM OE's with a 215-45ZR16 AZENIS, stock ride height. I've never expirenced any rubbing in the rear off and on track. Only a slight rub at full lock while in a parking lot in the front at times.

the rx7 wheels are +50, same as the jdm itr wheels, but the rx7 wheel has a 6" backspace, compared to the jdm itr wheel which is 5.5". basically the wheel is 1/2 inch closer to the trailing arms then the jdm itr, hence the reason i am asking the clearance question. i think it will *just* work. if not i have a backup plan for the rear. but, it would be nice to rotate the tires.
thanks to 97typeR and 1coolR for your meaurements, it is appreciated.

Here are the pics I told you I'd take for you Rodney. Sorry, it's a little blurry, but it's hard to lay under a car thats already lowered on the ground and take the picture. You can easily see the 1" mark in the picture though. I took it on my lunch break so I couldn't get very creative.
