Default Foglights? Here's my install! (used Talon driving lights)

not sure why it is this week, but ive finally off my *** and gotten some stuff done ive been meaning to do for years it seems (literally actually). including adding my kill switch (awesomely done i must say, too bad i cant share too much about it...), fixing the blower resistor, and also finally finishing my foglight install which i originally concieved the idea over 3 years ago!

my friend had these driving lights off an early model talon of some year that I dont exactly know (you figure it out), but I thought would fit perfectly into the later CRX bumpers. so with my extra bumper i had laying around, i just took my dremel and went to town and basically kludged and forced it all together to fit and it has turned out rather nicely. check it out!

these really work best as DRIVING lights, since i think the MAIN benefit is that they cast a much WIDER light. very useful for picking up things on the side of the road, especially going thru the woods and making quick turns around blind corners. its not a lot, but when theres ZERO light outside, any bit of light where there isnt helps a lot. heres a pic with all the lights on.

actually the rightside lo-beam is a 9005-9006 conversion i also did recently. found a decent 9005 bulb in the junkyard, kinda rare because usually all the headlights are already missing. so i just did the job and popped em in. its just a generic sylvania bulb, but you can see the bit of difference.

pic of foglights alone.

pic of what the driving lights can distinguish from the side. actually, due to the improper exposure of the camera, i could see a lot more with my eyes like the bike in the background that you cant see in the pic.

[edit] i changed the contrast to the pic to better represent what i saw with my eyes. the lawn mower actually blocks the rest of the peripheral light.

i really dont have any actual build-up photos. fitting them in there was the hard part, just basically had to cut an opening in the bumper mold, then just force it in and make a few cuts to widen the opening until it fits in snug. then i took some pieces of metal and small bolts and mounted it to the bumper plastic. when i fitted the bumper with the lights onto the chassis, it actually JUST fits, and the back end of the lights bumps right into the subframe, but its just barely so that it all fits together perfectly.

wiring was simple, but i had to do it over again because the positive wire inside one of the foglights actually had the insulation torn and was shorted out. when i got it all together for the first time and powered it on, everything was smoking! i learned to put a fuse on the power line of the relay, heh. oh yeah, and i used the small light on the turn signal bulb to "switch" on the relay, so its always on with the headlights or parking lights, and theres no wiring into the cabin because i dont care for a manual switch. (why would i NOT want em on...)

oh, these lights have nothing to do with my car being previosly road raced. in fact youre not supposed to have em while racing, unless its an enduro. im just not racing anymore, the numbers i keep on for sentimental value. couldnt care less what attention it brings, if ever.

I had thought about using the DSM or avenger lights before, glad to see the DSM's work good.

couple of hours, but everything i do takes longer than normal ppl. once you take the bumper off and arent afraid of doing some surgery, its like trying to fit a cube in the square hole.

My brother says those are probably 94+ fogs and most likely from a 95. He's pretty good with his talon stuff, so I'd trust him. The older ones were more square and have a "Batman" logo in the middle.

Looks nice, actually they look like they fit better than the factory ones

yeah, which is why i like these better than OEM, JDM or whatever anyway. i envisioned it fitting perfectly in and following the bottom outside corner curve, which im just glad to see works

finally got around to fitting them on my 88.

fits really good there, almost perfect match to the curvature. its not ideal since theyre not out in the corners so the peripheral isnt as good, but still better than nothing.

here's the comparison.

just headlights

fog lights on

like i predicted, not as wide in the peripheral as they were mounted on my 90 bumper. and the way its mounted its hard to the lights to stay low, the right is not as low as i'd like it. but itll do. im happy with it, it does what proper driving lights should do, adds more light for driving.

btw, the headlights are EDM with H4 OSRAM Nightbreakers bulbs.
