Default Can higher viscosity oil cause spool time to increase ?

Changed my oil today from my usual 5-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic to 15-50 Mobil 1 full synthetic. After taking her out for a spin i noticed that my spool time increased about 1k rpm, it would usually start spooling around 3k and now it spools around 4 to 4.5k rpm.

A simple yes or no answere will suffice, thanks.

Yes, why the heavy oil? smoking? Valvoline, Full Syn. 10-30 is great stuff, paired up with a factory filter.

how thick is the oil? yes thicker oil will cause the turbo to spool slower.

Originally ran 10w30 dino oil (first 3k) then switched to mobil 1 15w50. Now back to 10w30 but mobil 1 synthetic this time for winter. I have noticed little to no noticeable change in spool time. The biggest factor in spool time I ever changed was my filter. Turns out since day one I was running around with a mostly clogged no-name cone. My boost was erratic and my car was rather slow. The turbo was also muffled. I decided to wash it the other day and wow. Boost is back to normal like it used to be, no more detonation (guess the turbo was overheating the air trying to pull through it) and much faster spool. Maybe it's time for a cleaning / change for you. Keep tabs on it, that's somthing that can easily slip your mind, like it did mine. When I pulled it off, I put my mouth to it and tried to breathe through it... there was noticeable resistance. After the cleaning it was back to new.

Good luck.

from my experience on a stock engine, yes

this summer i got new oil from europe, they used it for moto racing!! it was 0W40 full synthetic Ipone oil. only on my stock engine i've seen a big difference with 5w30 mobil 1 tri-syntec, the engine was reving a lot easier, the vtec seems to kick a little harder, with the mobil 1 oil I didn't even felt the vtec engaging (i have a 6th gen accord with the f23, 150hp/150trq) but with the oil changed, the oil pressure seems to be a lot more responsive. I actually got more low end.

i know it's not turbo related, but since I've seen that big difference in a stock engine, imagine in a turbo engine.

this oil is made for moto that revs at 15K and more during 1-2 hours. it got less friction between the parts since the oil is thin, looks like water, so evrything is moving easier, so on a turbo I would say that kind of oil would get you faster response from your turbo.

Thinner oil would make a difference but I wouldn't run too thin. More wear and tear on the engine components
