Default turbo heat under the hood

what is the best way to get rid of the heat under the hood of our cars i don't have any heat sheald or heat wrap on anything. what are the thoughts on this i was thinking about getting a CF hood with the two vents like the EVO has kinda. but i don't know if this hood with fit a B16 with Hasport mounts in a honda or not.

i do have a turbo timmer on my car but i just don't like all the heat.

a turbo is going to generate enormous amounts of heat no matter what. the vents seem like a good idea, but i dont have any proof to back that up. heat wrap any components in the immediate area of your turbo. OT but, the turbo in my 944 sits right under the throttle body and part of the intake manifold, i dropped .2 secs of my quarter mile just by heat wrapping the manifold and throttle body. its not bling bling but, it works.

heat shield is your best defense. just a plain aluminum sheet to block radiant heat from the turbo. possible a turbo blanket would help as well.

I'd look into a turbo blanket also. I assume that is your rex in your avatar? It looks very nice from what I can make out. You should post some pics.

Nice though it could use some sexier wheels.

What is that last photo of? The close up carbon fiber pic?

put washers in between the latch and the hood.

i guess ideally some vents would be great...but what if it rained? etc? plus your engine compartment would get mad dirt and dust all over. I've always thought a metal hood acts like a radiator, absorbing heat from the engine and dissipating it over the hood while it cools on top from driving. I dunno how well cf absorbs heat but if there weren't any vents with a cf hood wouldn't you think it would trap even more heat?

btw, can someone post a pic of a turbo blanket? thx

Has the safety film in your windshield melted yet?

I did that with my CRX. People always asked me what was wrong with my hood or if I knew my hood was open...

yeah i did that carbon work with one other guy for the SVSU FSAE team we make the whole car like that and then put a turbo GSX-R 600 motor in it...great times. but back to the honda. i know the wheels are not cool but they came on the car so that is what i left on there i want to get some rota's or something lighter but there is only so much money when you are in school so i spent it on go fast stuff... i mean the out side somepeople say it is rice but i don't really care as long as it is fast.

This is how I keep my under hood heat WAY down. the vents on the hood help out the most and keep the temp under as low or lower than a N/A car. the vents sit a little behind the mani which is a perfect spot for heat to escape. The thermal wrap around the mani also helps a great deal.

if your looking for free DIY pull the weatherstrip off the back of the raintray that seals the hood with the windshield, makes a pretty good cowl, might end up with oily windshield though.

IMPORTANT!!!!

Lifting the back of the hood like that DOES NOT let heat out! Aerodynamically, the bottom of the windshield is a high-pressure area. That means that, if you lift the rear of the hood, the air will go IN to the engine bay, not out of it.

That's why nothing comes out the back, everything is going IN.
