Post reviews of All-Season tires
If you have driven on these tires before, please post your impression. Of course they are not gonna be superior than Azenis and other summer tires. But I am looking for a good balance of price, wet&dry handling <snow not a major concern> and wear...and suppose this will be the year-round tire to be used.
Notice all tires listed are under $100 and information gathered from tirerack.com
Falken Ziex 512 - extremely cheap for 205/50/15, but no reviews available.
Dunlop SP Sport A2 - Supposedly bad threadwear of around 15,000mi
Dunlop SP 5000 - has reviews of premature threawear of 15,000mi
Continental ContiExtremecontact -- Only available in 205/55/15.
Kumho Ecsta 711 - Not so good wet/snow traction, loud.
Bridgestone RE910 - $85 for a T rated tire?
Or, any other candidates you tried and liked.

If snow is not a major concern, then why don't you just get regular summer tires? Tires like the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 and the Yokohama AVS ES100 (as well as the stock RE010) are great in the rain and stick like glue in the dry...
I've run both of the Dunlops, sport A2 and I currently have the SP5000s on the car right now.
Sport A2s: Average tire, not real fitting for the Type R. But it will get you around town. IT does tend to squeal a bit when pushed.
SP5000s: I bought this tire for the winter. If you get a lot of snow, then I would suggest an alternate tire. In the cold, wet or dry, this tire is great. I swear it sticks better at 30 degrees than 50. A fairly quiet tire and you can have a little fun with out it being known to everyone around. I would estimate 15K miles on the tires with at least 5k left. Driven less agressively, I would bet you can get more mileage out of them. Overall I like this tire as an all season tire. Though I would not confuse it with a summer tire (SO3 or ES100).
Edit for mistake..

Neither the SO3 or ES100 are considered an all season tire.

Because of price issue. They are out of consideration.
I had S-03 b4 for summer tires now Azenis, they are marginal ok in wet street use compare to the Dunlop SP5000 I have now. This post is intended for a friend <female driver
> and also any future reference.
While snow is not a major concern, as I doubt any of us will go out in ITR while snowing, mainly due to salt on road. However, cold pavement may also be a problem for summer tires. It is now 7 degrees Farenheit in New York....

Dunlop SP5000 Asymmetrico 205/50/15 - These tires have great grip for wet and dry, braking and turning. If I had the money, I'd buy these tires again. They are not as good as the Azenis, but are a hell-of-alot better than the tires I have on now.
These will work good in the snow and great in the rain. Standing water doesn't bother these tires at all. It loses 70% of its snow prowling abilty after you get low on tread but that's with all tires. It still maintains about 80% of its grip on dry road after it wears down. The only downside to these tires is that they feel sloppy until you get used to them on the skinny 15x6 stock wheels.
Not so sure about the treadwear. They seemed to last me a year and 1/2. (I drive about 24k miles a year).
Sumitomo HTR+ 195/55/15 Ultra high performance all-season tires? BAH ! I say .. BAH!!!!!
Well, for a cheap tire they do Ok.
These tires are excellent in the rain. They are even BETTER than the Dunlop SP5000's in the rain. They are great in the snow just like any other All Season Tire. They suck when braking hard. The ABS kicks in way too soon because these tires loose grip pretty fast. Compared to the Dunlops above, they stick 60% as well as the Dunlops.
As a better comparison, 215/45/16 Azenis would stick 100%, Dunlop 5000 sticks about 80% of the grip of Azenis, and the HTR+ stick about 48% as well as the Azenis when stopping.
I tried hard braking from 80 mph - 25 mph on a deserted strip of road. The HTR+ makes it a little scarey as the car's end seemed to wiggle every now and then.
For turns, the HTR+ are sufficient on the street. I'd feel safer in a panic stop if I still had the Dunlops.
As for the treadwear, I've only gone about 5000 miles and I've already worn the fronts down about 1/2 the tread depth. The rears still have good tread.

i loved the dunlop 5000; i had them as my winter tires on my the old gsr and my R. their grip in all temperatures wet and dry was great. of course, not so great in snow.
I have now narrowed down to the Continental ContiExtremeContact.
But it is only available in 205/55/15...is it ok to use?
After calculation, speedodmeter will read slower by an acceptable margin.
I am concerned about the driving sensation. I know 205 will be a bit sloppy, but now add a taller tire, what would be the outcome?

205/55/15 on stock itr rim isn't half bad. Actually, you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference under normal driving. It's a bit more cushioned ride, so that works out for daily driving.
However, I've used 205/55/15 S-03s and not ContiExtremeContact, so my experience might vary significantly from what Conti will give you.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced tire that handles well in the dry and the wet, try the 195/50 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. I have them and not only are they impressive, but they will last a long time (relatively speaking). I've got 12k on mine and I'd bet at least another 6-8k left on them (for reference, my stockers were bald at 6500 and my Azenis were bald at ~14k.
eh...well, snow might not be too important here, but snow and cold pavement are factors to be considered. The GoodYear is a summer tire and I am trying to avoid summer tires and look into all-season category.
Can anyone provide me links or info regarding Falken Ziex 512? They are the only ones that comes in 195/55/15...and no, please don't recommend YoKo ES100.

Great suggestion! Ive been running these on my GSR daily driven for about 7k miles and I have to say they do indeed rock! Not quite S03s, but for the money they are damn near close, and wet traction is amazing.

I haven't driven any of the aforementioned tires on the R..so, no comment.
But, if you are looking to save some fundage, you can pick up these.
http://www.discounttiredirect....28837
They look like Re's for some reason, of course that means little to nothing.
They are made by *visa*..no you can't charge w/these.
But apparently they are made by Falken and marketed under a different name.
They were only $54 ea. I haven't really tried them out in the snow yet. But they are fairly sticky for an allseason, really cheap, and do great in the wet.
Also you can pick up the Ziex for like $4 more.. I driven my friends EG w/those, and it felt great. But in the snow they don't fair to well.
Also, discounttiredirect usually has free shipping, and tirerack doesn't
PS: here is some more 205/50/15 selection

here is everything available for the R..you chose size

If you look closely, discounttires already added the shipping cost into each of the tires. If you do the math, discountires actually cost more.
Example: Dunlop SP5000 205/50/15
Tirerack: 103 each x 4 + 30 = 442
discout: 113 each x 4 = 452
Not to mention Tirerack's service

Due to size limitation, I'll go with Ziex's 195/55/15. They are only 232 shipped, if they sucks, I'll change next spring.

Yeah...you are right on that one.
But I just want to point out that the "free shipping" thing is a fraud and you should be aware of it. Simply compare every other tires that tirerack and discounttire both carries and you will find the same price difference. So, Discounttires is not really "discount", but a choice for varieties.
