Thanks dude. I have a Joe Rocket alterego and an HJC Cl-14 helmet and some olympia gloves with carbon fiber knuckles. I am careful and I am going to take the MSF.

Congrats on the bike!

Gear. Did you get riding boots? Invest in a set if you are mainly pleasure riding, they will improve your use of the controls, and thus your riding.

**** happens, you gotta be as alert as a hawk ALL THE TIME.

Twist of the wrist vids are a must see for safe riding, esp. in traffic, +msf

Better? I was told the gear I have is pretty damn good. What do you mean? Should I buy some pants and boots too?

i have same bike, just yellow

its my 2nd bike. i dont think its a horrible first bike. its comfortable, very easy handling, good brakes. maybe little too much power, but as long as you know your limits and dont give it too much throttle, your golden

The gear you have is decent. But you'll want a leather 2-piece suit or a 1-piece suit, eventually. Perhaps even an Aerostitch suit. And some boots, too. This stuff would still be cheaper than a skin graft. It's money well-spent.

Well from what I have read and heard, the Joe Rocket gear is pretty good and protects the skin really well. As far as leater goes, no. It is going to be extremely hot in the summer and the leather will cook me inside. I don't know what Aerostictch is, but I will look into it. As far a boots go, you are correct. I am looking for some as we speak.

most of the full one peice suits have VERY good ventilation, but i hear ya it gets stupid hot here in the summer and leather is NO fun in traffic....however on the highway leather is a must and if you get a good one peice it won't be too hot on the highway.

I would rather be baking in leathers, then getting road rash. As far as boots go, look into some Sidi Vert 2's, those are kick *** boots.

I've never heard of olympia gloves. JR is crap. That hjc helmet is a cheapie. You don't have to go full suit or whatnot but leather is definetely a must for any sort of real riding. Don't take my word for it, just hope you never prove me right.

how well would a textile jacket with armor protect u in a fall at 50+mph? would it just rip then? I have both leather and textile, but tend to wear the textile in the summer.

The asphalt would eat right through the textile. Probably protects better than a T-shirt though hehe

I got a Joe rocket Phoenix Textile jacket. My freind proved that at a 50mph crash it held up fine. Only place he got road rash was inbetween the pads. Not the best design, but it does look nice and fits real well.

That's good to hear about the phoenix jacket. I have a JR reactor with hard armor, but I tend to wear my leather jacket (spidi) all the time. Just not sure about that JR stuff.....but hey, what can I expect for only $100
