Short Shifter Install
-Take off your shift ****.
-Take off your lower center console.
-Jack up your car, and put it on stands.
-Take off the bolt (12mm im pretty sure) holding the shift linkage to the shifter.
-With either another person, or a vice grip wedged in the shifter hole, grab onto the other bolts holding on the other shifter linkage. (10mm I think)
-Take out shifter.
-Reverse.
I think it took me 15 min. to figure out the first time I did it. Diving into stuff is the easiest way to figure it out. There isnt much on a honda tha is really that complicated.

Damn I just read this in my service manual. I was like jack up the car WHAT??? So it is true...LOL. I thought it was funny. Just different since I am used to RWD. You just pull the damn thing out after removing the ****, boot and o rings...at least on a Nissan anyway

yeah cause the driveshaft is where the honda linkage would be...
Alright well it sounds pretty straightforward, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't one of those installs that takes some kind of tool or could mess something up in the tranny. Thanks

don't worry, when it breaks buy a skunk2 (the one i have after i bought 2 no name ss's and they broke) or another good quality shifter that you can search for
ps: broken SS's suck....
the install is really easy though, just go ahead and dive into it
, like it was said before, it's the best way to learn

No name shifters are indeed the ****.
DC sports shifter: 120$
Ebay- blue aluminum short shift stick with abec-5 ball bearings: 13$
In all seriousness, its a aluminum stick with a ball, threads, and a hole at the bottom with a bearing. No more, don't waste cash on a name brand for the exact same aluminum. And remember, short throw shifters don't kill transmissions, people kill transmissions.

anyone know where i can get shifter bushings cheap for my hotass silver pimped out noname ebay shifter lol....does it help a lot...what exactly does it do...just askin...
dont think about installing a short shifter w/out new bushings..wouldnt be worth it. Do the bushings (cant remember the brand right now) at the same time as the ss and it will be a hella difference. Basically the bushings take out the slushiness feel of the shift and make it crisp. Most cost effective mod you can do!

i doubt you can break a skunk2 shifter(never heard of it breaking), it's made out of steel (fordged), you can tell by the weight...it's heavier. The other no-name shifter i can see breaking since they're made of aluminum or two-piece welded steel...oh wait, i've broken two of them. It's possible and no i don't shift extrodinarily hard.

for the money u spend on 1 skunk2, u can go through 10 nonames....dont waste ur money on brand name, its not abt the name, its abt the performace, and they both do the same ****

i guess i put a price on quality and time/hassle spent on breaking shifters. I don't care about the name, just one that won't break. If you can find a cheap short shifter that won't break go for it. IMO it was worth every penny.
Note: i bought a used skunk2 with bushings and shift **** (came in package) from a guy for $95
the install's not difficult, but i don't feel like changing it every 4-5 months....

i would say for a non experienced person doing easy add ons to just buy a haynes manuel and with a little common sense you will do fine. there is nothing you can really mess up installing a short shifter
Thats what I thought
however I installed the little rubber boot that goes over the pivot ball upside down. Made for a stiff shifter. Had to go back and correct it. shifting was fine after that.
