removing trailing arm and need help w/ removing ebrake cable
Hey guys,
First a little background(yes I have searched
)
well I was owned by a curb with my beater(90 civic si) the other day playing in the snow and ended up bending in the rear trailing arm a bit along with tearing one of the bushings.
I began removing the trailing arm tonight and got stuck with the stupid ebrake cable. Now I removed the brake drum and shoes and got the end of the cable free but the part im stuck on is pressing the 'tangs' in enough to pull the cable out of the drum housing or whatever. According to my haynes, worst manual ever, im supposed to slide a 12mm wrench over it in order to press them in and slide it through the hole. Now the 12mm seems too small and anything larger is too big to press the tangs in enough, I even tried being creative by using a very small hose clamp to press it in but it didnt work out for me.
How did you guys go about removing the cable?
here's some quick camera phone pics to hopefully clarify what im talking about.
Thanks in advance.

just did this a week ago.
spray the bad boy down with some WD40, then slide a 12mm wrench over the cable. use a flathead and a small hammer to tap the wrench flush with the hole the ebrake cable goes through. this will push all 3 clips down simultaneously. now move the flathead to the top of the clip and give it a good knock. the 3 clips should clear the hole. then you need to push on the rubber grommet that's stuck in the trailing arm and pull the cable out.
if you need any more clarification, let me know. the lube and the hammer are what you're missing.

I need to remove the cable in order to drop the trailing arm and replace it with another one, the one on the car is tweaked....
I tried hammering he 12mm on but I guess I didnt try hard enough
seems like its going to be a VERY snug fit. I will be definitely trying this again later this morning/afternoon hopefuly I'll get the sucker out this time around.
I appreciate it, I will let you know how it works out for me

Damn, beats the hell out of my vice-grip nightmare when I did my RTA bushings. That's a good idea. I wish I had read this before doing it myself. That clip is a huge PITA.
