faster with no muffler?
once when i took my muffler off and drove it, it got slower, but i took it off today and i noticed a pretty big gain. i think i need a new muffler, mines all beat up and rattles and ****. i ordered a new muffler, i would drive it mufferless but its just so loud!

kinda funny though

it shouldnt make it go faster. jus louder. i thought it boggs down your car. thats what it did to my zc when i switched out stock header for a 4-2-1 header and drove it with no muffler for like 10 min all i could notice is that its stupid loud. no gain in performance. but i could be wrong. better off gettin a full catback system IMO
I think when you take off the muffler, you lose torque, but gain higher RPM HP. If you take the muffler off it messes with the backpressure and makes you lose torque, since our engines need a little backpressure to keep the lowend power.
Backpressure doesn't make the power, exhaust velocity does. Removing the muffler should make very little difference if any in power because the pipes are the same design and size. Like people posted above, just makes you louder for the most part.
My B16 crx was a few tenths faster in the 1/4 mile with no muffler....and this was a performance muffler.
It's a restriction in the exhaust. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't make you faster unless the restriction is extremely small. It's why they make bigger and more exhaust valves, it's why they put VTEC on the exhaust side, and it's why they use mandrel bends for the exhaust. It should make you faster. How much faster depends on the muffler you're taking off.
It shouldn't make you lose low-end torque. First off, you can't lose what you don't have j/k, and second backpressure is not what gives you low end torque. Backpressure is usually the undesireable byproduct of another phenomenon that gives you low-end torque. It doesn't mean it's what's responsible for it. If designers could do away with it altogether they would.

ok well i ordered a new muffler, ive got a 2.5" catback on there w/ a custom axleback so ican fit my fartcan on it. i can see what your sayin i lose torque w/out one but gain higher rpm hp. i didnt notice it before but thats exactly what it is.

Dude, I have a DC 421 and a cut out. When I open the cut out I lose power to about 3k, hits 3k and the thing huals more so then when it has the exhuast on all the way to rev limit.

Well the muffler is really there to make it quieter then the loud fart. Usually the general idea is..the more exhaust flow coming out (bigger piping) means lower end power but higher top end power.
