Default Fastline Performance shifter reviews?

Someone posted a link to the FLP shifter in another thread, and I noticed Heel Toe Auto is selling them in the sponsors forum. There was only one useful review in that thread, though (and a cool video of it installed in someone's EG). Does anyone have this installed? Thoughts? I'm thinking of buying one but can't really decide if I want to spend the money just yet.

Here's a link to the shifter if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://www.fastlineperformance.com/shifter.htm

No one has used it yet? I like the fact that it retains stock throws but puts the shift **** practically right next to your hand like the MB CLK-GTR or Porsche Carrera GT. Just seeking some overall feedback about it, though.

i am very happy with my fastline skid plate for the jdm itr header, fwiw.

i'm a little skeptical of the shifter. while i imagine the quality is quite good, i question the need for the added height. everyone was all excited when the new si came out with the 'rally-style' shifter which came out the center of the console right by the steering wheel, but after some use in road racing situations, the reviews were mixed.

also, the added length underneath the 'ball' looks like it would interfere big time with an aftermarket exhaust. i have a skunk2 short shifter (which is no shorter in height btw, just throw) that just misses the stock exhaust, and i have heard of other's contacting aftermarket ones.

the sites claims are a little exaggerated (vibration through the shifter?) but it may be worth a shot. i'm sure you could turn around and sell it here and almost make your money back. i don't know if it's necessary for a street car though.

i have a stock shifter & **** from an si if anyone wants that...

One last bump before I give up. It's not too expensive (not as much as I thought it'd cost), but it's still $140, and I'm not a rich guy who can go around spending money on things. I know there has to be more people who bought one from Heel Toe Auto. Doesn't matter if it's in a 5G or 6G Civic; I just want to hear from people who have it. So last bump. . . .

Thx for the feedback. I'm using Prothane bushings right now with the stock shift lever, so I'm set there. How long have you had the FLP shifter? Does it take some getting used to with the shifter way up high?

For anything but a del Sol I bet this is a wonderful change from the trend of 'short-throw' shifters.

Every problem they point out with any short shifter I have seen and/or encountered in every car that has one.. Except for the gay-boner style shaft sticking out of the car, it's probably fully functional in every regard.

I wouldn't mind seeing one for the del Sol to bring the shifter up a tad and more towards the driver, like take that stepped bend and bring it towards the drivers side (or passenger or JDM driver by flipping it.)

I'd say do it.. In theory it seems like a phenominal product.

Hahahaha, that's the first thing that came to my mind, too ... "Wow, looks like a big *****." I definitely think I'm going to purchase this soon. If not tomorrow then probably Friday. In spirited driving, I hate how I have to reach down a lot to shift. The FLP shifter seems to solve this problem quite well.

I was to be the 5th gen test car for the shifter, but the engine was torn apart at the time.

Looks to be a quality piece (unlike most short shifters); i'd go with Mugen hard rubber bushings instead of urethane though.

Okay, well after looking at the videos and reading that one useful review in Marcus' post , I decided to buy one. In fact, I just sent him a PayPal payment like two minutes ago. His year-end sale had it going for $139 shipped plus a 3% PayPal/CC processing fee, which totaled $143.17 out the door. Not too bad. So I'll post up a review when I receive it and get it installed.

Will do! My PayPal payment cleared the bank, and I was informed through e-mail by Marcus that the shifter would be shipped out today. I also got the USPS tracking number, too. Sweet!

I installed one with my swap but have not driven it yet. Hopefully the car will be driveable this weekend and I will post my impressions. Here is a pic of the FLP next to a Skunk2:

We have it installed in our Ef and it is nice. It is in a really comfortable position, and because it is wieghted it shifts extremely smooth. It looks different, but is extremely functional.

Sweet, good to hear all these great things! I received mine last Wednesday and will finally get to install it on Friday. It looks great, and I can't say enough about how kick *** Marcus' customer service is. Heel Toe Automotive is an awesome place to buy from.

Well, I ran into some problems when installing it. After e-mailing Marcus at Heel Toe Automotive, he thinks I may have been sent one for a del Sol instead of a Civic. Apparently, there are two models--one for a del Sol and one for Civics/Integras. And from the problems I was having yesterday, what I received was definitely not meant for my '97 Civic. So I'm sending it back on Tuesday to have Marcus look at it. I still give a to Marcus for his help, prompt e-mail replies, and courtesy, though!
