Want to swap auto to manual
I have a 1993 honda civic dx with a auto trans. I want to swap it out with a manual trans. I need to know if there is anything special I need to know or do and what trannys I can use. I would like to put any crx si tranny in it so I dont have to put a clutch master in and run the lines. What can I do??
i did it, it wasn't that bad at all. Got the man tranny with my swap. picked up pedals and everything to convert over for $90 at a junk yard and spent like $300 on a clutch kit. For the wiring though
Auto To manual :
Wiring: On the shifter for the auto transmission, you will see a 14-wire plug. Cut the plug from the auto shifter assembly, and leave about 5 inches of wire.
Looking at the plug, the positions are (left to right) (top row) 8 (unused and blank from factory),9,10,11,12,13,14 and (bottom row) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Starter (top) Sensor: There are two heavy gauge wires (position #10 and position #11). Connect these two wires to the top sensor (clutch interlock switch) on the clutch pedal assembly. This will only allow the car to start when the clutch pedal is engaged. In other words, everytime you press the clutch you will close the circuit.
Its the huge plug under your shifter. Splice the 2 biggets black wires and you will have already bypassed your clutch switch .
Cruise Control (bottom) Sensor: The bottom switch is your cruise control disable switch. Run two wires from the switch: connect one to the position #1 (black) and the other to #9 (pink). Everytime you press the clutch pedal, the cruise controll will disable.
Reverse Lights: Look at the plug you used on the engine wiring harness to hook up to your reverse sensor on the manual transmission. Run two wires from this switch to the yellow wire and a green wire with black stripe (positions 3 and 4) at the big plug that you cut off from the auto shifter. Now your reverse lights should work.
oh there are two other wires that you have to connect so that you can take the key out of the ignition but i can remember the color of the wires. if you look at the old auto shifter you can figure it out

Thanks for the help. I still need to know what type of trannys I can use and what axels will fit. On a auto tranny the ecu controls the shifting and the idel based on what gear you have it in. Will I need to put an ecu out of a manual car to make everything work or is there anything I can do to make the one I have work.
just take the tranny out of the model 92-95 car and everything will work, just use your curent axles i would get a p28 man ecu. You will need to replace your passenger side mount with a place racing mount or a hcp mount. or make your own if you know what your doing.

your gonna have to get the whole pedal assembly or just get the clutch pedal and cut the brake pedal or every time you shift you will hit the brake. You will need to run a line from the master cylinder which bolts right on the clutch pedal and firewall to the slave cylinder which is mounted on the tranny. You can use brake lines, which is cheaper, if you cant get it from a junk yard. Also make sure you get a 5spd starter. Just a tip, when you go to install the shifter make sure to have the linkage attached before bolting the shifter to the floor, or it might be really sloppy
when you remove your auto stuff it'll look like this
I decided to put a steel plate over top of the holes, and then drive a hole with a hole saw just for the shifter to fit through
Hope that helps
