Default Thinking about swap f20B vs h22A

I searched before I posted:

I was thinking about going with a swap on my 4th gen, I was debating between a f20B and a h22a. They both are dohc and vtec, both are 2.2L, the only difference I am seeing is in the bore and stroke. Anyone have any comments on the f20B and also which one would be better for the long run, I would plan on leaving the motor stock for now but later would build it a little bit. Also will the f20 pretty much drop in, the h22 does other than axles and newer motor mounts, any help on this would be appreciated. Anything I should look out for?

when you say building up the motor, you mean N/A or FI, also, the h22 uses the stock 4th gen mounts and axles and int. shaft so its just as much a drop in, you just gotta lengthen hoses and stuff like that, also the downpipe doesnt match the cat so thats gotta be welded

umm f20 = 2.0 not 2.2 the reason they make the same power is f20b has 11:1 compression and a type s head so it would be legal to race in a certain series. It also has less torque because of this. It's also over priced, and since not too many people have the swaps, there may be problems we don't even know about. I think one thing I can think of off the top of my head is that it had electronic power steering assist? something like that. I guess it wouldn't matter if you weren't keeping power steering, but just things like that you should keep in mind.

The f20b also has a 8k redline which would be nice...

You can always get a aftermarket ECU to make H22A have 9500 redline.

and it could also not make power that high and you could blow the engine...

I dont know why I said 2.2L on the f20.....all these damn numbers, anyways, I would like to start with a very strong NA motor. The h22 has compression of 10.6:1 and an official redline of 8200, plus I can get it obd 1. These are all really good for me. Since the h22 is pretty much a drop and swap sort of deal other than lengthing some wires hosing and p/s plumbing its pretty much plug and pray. Also I was reading that if I wanted to swap auto for a manny, there is a manny mount that would have to be attached (was checking out the quasi how to on sport compact car) and its a matter of running all of the components for that or swap it for a h22 auto or keep my f22 tranny which has taller gears for FI applications. Basically I want a strong motor NA that will be reliable and will be potent enough for some racing and a lot of daily driving with an occasional meet at 8K. I am leaning more towards the h22. Also I was checking out this site to purchase it, only 2050 for the engine and 400 for shipping wadda think?

just so you know, the f20b and the h22a (as well as the h23) are all identical blocks...it's merely the sleeves, cranks, rods, and pistons that are different to create the different varieties of displacements...so as far as it fitting (as well as the tranny) you will be fine...also, the f20b can rev, but doesn't create nearly the same amount of tourque as the h22 (although the h22 isn't exactly a tourque monster)...it's really up to you...i'd personally spend the money on the h22 and save the extra money i saved towards some other modifications to the car...

Well I think the cheapest and least modding would be the h22a, however custom is custom and a f20B would be sweet.....but for money reasons and parts availability I will go with the h22a, thanks guys. And Merry Christmas

i had the F20b last year around this time but it popped on me when i was racing on the highway. like u said the f20 is rare and therefore over priced. if u get one i would strongly suggest upgradeing the valvetrain 1st. trust me i know. mine dropped a valve, wich put a hole in the block and the header. but i won sooooooo. lol i would go with the H22 if i was u. my friend has one in a 90 accord 4 door it pulls pretty good 14.8 on 18's no mods.

14.8 @ sea level = 15.8 at a mile high.... But not bad with no mods.....I would get the h22 tranny w/h22 thinking I might pay a little more for the jdm tranny for durability and doesn't it come with a 6speed? Cuz that would be sweet.
