Default irractic idle and jerking.... on 2 cars ?

so i got to talking to one of my friends who has a b16a2 in his ek coupe, myself i had a b16a2 in my ek hatch, his was wired with his stock ex harness runnning with obd2 p72, mine was wired with stock cx harness running the same obd2 p72 ecu... both cars idle funny @ about 1500 rpms, like a qucik jumping from 1400-1600, any time i would say the idle control valves or tps... but both cars love to jerk really bad if those rpm's are hit in gear... why the smiliarities ?

Great post

Is the erratic idle only at startup or is it all the time?

Erratic at startup: Fast Idle Throttle Valve
Erratic after warmed up at idle: IACV (idle air control valve)

mine does the same damn thing. If I reset the ecu the car runs fine for a few days and then at complete random the idle will start bouncing between 1400 rpm and 1600 rpm. After it starts idleing like that the car runs like complete **** (hesitation, bogging, backfiring, etc.) until I reset the ecu. when it started idleing like that i check for codes and got an iacv code. So i replaced it and reset the ecu but the same **** still happens, i think that the iacv is getting tricked into thinking its at fault when its not. If you figure anything out let me know, this has stumped me and my friends for months now.

I have a b16b in 97 hatch. As soon as I did the swap it ilded up and down. It is throwing an iacv code. I replaced it and it still throwing it and iti is still doing the same thing. My friends and i can't figure it out either. Checked the coolant levels and all vaccum lines and nothing. Let me know if you find anything out.

isnt the p72 ECU a GSR ECU and supposed to feed a 1.8L motor? that may be a clue or maybe I'm wrong.

In effect the programming for the Butterfly valves on the IM of the gsr could be confusing your b16's. Just my .02. But then again, i'm not too familiar with the b16 ecu.

A lot of people run the gsr ecu because the p2t (si ecu) is obd2b and the 96-98 civics are obd2a. I wanted to keep the p2t so I bought an obd2a to obd2b jumper harness from katman (great quality). But I'm still having the problem. My next attempt to fix this is to install the fuel pump and fuel tank from an Si, if that doesnt work I'm going to get a new wiring harness and ecu. Any thoughts?

my car does the exact same thing and funny thing is that i think it is something in the brake booster cause when i have my foot on the brake it doesnt idle irraticly but i am also throwing the code for the iac and the car bucks really bad when im at low rpms when i did my swap i used an obd 0 intake mani and have since bought an obd2 ls mani to see if this corrects my problem.. im guessing mine is a series of vacuum leaks along witht the iac..

trust me it doesnt matter... i had a p2p(ex( right after swap cause i needed a ecu, then a p72(gsr), now skunk2 chipped p30 ob1 and still does the same thing. and to add to that, when im going down the road with idle over 1400-1600 it jerks back and forth, no consistant idle. only good with woman

hello, after my mechanic has failed to repair my wifes 96 civic for three weeks, i decided to check it out online. our problem sounds familiar to yours, i know nothing about cars so i'll explain the best i can. our mechanic gets a code for idle control valve and he replaces it. then within a few days the engine light comes on and soon the sputtering is back. the mechanic boiled the manifold, changed the coolant, and replaced the valve half a dozen times and still the light comes back.
was this the problem you had and is there anything i can suggest to my mechanic?
if you know, plz let me know

my car is doing the same thing (99 civic si). it only occurs when i have been driving around for over 15 minutes and i hit a stoplight. the idle will be around 1500 and if i give it around 1-2% throttle to bring the rpm up to around 1700 the rpm starts bouncing up and down to 1900 and 1700. once i start driving the car it feels real jerky beginning in first and pretty much through all the rpms. it feels like the clutch is grabbing all crazy and like im learning how to drive stick for the first time. the weirdest thing is, is that i will pull over to the side and shut the car off and start it back up and the car will act normal until i make a stop at a light then it all comes back. i appreciate any info to help me diagnose my problem. THANKS!!!

did anyone ever figure this out??? it's happening to my accord since i swapped in a jdm F22B, same deal with the cel codes. gave me codes 1, 14, and 6. 1 is for the o2 sensor 1, 14 is the IAC, 6 is something like the water temp sensor.
