GT Series Turbo Question
I know the main reason about price being why more ppl dont choose the GT Series turbos. But im curious for high HP applications What turbo would you use? I see alot of ppl using the PT67 and the PT70 turbos and keeping them spooling pretty easily with p trim turbine sides. What about something like a GT40R. Also what trim options would be good. Anybody use this or have experiance with it? Would it perform well like a PT70 would?
Thanks

Good question. I would like to know also.
Just looking around on the internet i found...looks like the GT40R would be a nice match up for the PT67 ptrim.

But the GT45R is just too big i think....unless your going totally full-race with NOS.

Some of them use garret wheels too. Its like a non-ballbearing garret with crappy housings (I dont like the way they look anyways).

crappy housings? Are you crazy? Precision has some of the best housings made! Show me a turbo that will make almost 400whp at 10psi ,and hit full boost at under 5000rpms, and cost under $800 and ill show you a sc61.

I simply stated I dont like the way they look, thats me. 10psi at what rpm? 10psi isnt alot of flow, theres alot of turbos that can flow enuf air for 10psi and spool up alot quicker than 5000rpm. You will have a hard time convincing me that a sc61 is significantly more efficient than a smaller turbo at 10psi.

Sure alot of turbos can flow enough air for 10psi, but there is a big difference between pressure and VOLUME.. There is not another turbo on the market that can spool faster then an SC61 and push the same volume of air except the Garret GT35R(retail: 1800$)... and guess what?? Thats where the SC61 gets its compressor wheel from!!!!!!! So unless you have some kinda factual data please leave your opinions out of this discussion. Thanks

I dont know if I agree with that direp, the exhuast wheel on the GT35R is GT series, vs. a standard t3 or t4 style for the SC61. The GT35R should flow a little more because of this. I also would chose the GT35R for obvious reasons, ie being a BB turbo... but the sc61 is a great value.

yes, the GT35R uses the 82 trim GT exhaust wheel. It makes about 15 more hp then a standard stage 5 T350 wheel and spools up the same. (non-ball bearing of course) If you can afford the GT35R I am all for it, I absolutely love that turbo..
Precision now offers a new version of the SC61 that is the same as before but u get the 82 trim GT exhaust wheel on it instead of the standard stage 5 T350. It costs a lil more then a standard SC61 but to some people it will be worth it. Im not sure on the exact price contact Arturbo if anyone is interested. I think he just got like 8 or 9 in stock. One of which is MINE!

I believe they are about ~$950. Wonderful turbo for the price
If ball bearing is not a concern, is perfect!

Art does have them, I think he said about $950....... now did you know you could that you can get it with the ball bearing
.
Ask Arturbo he is the one that told me about them.

if you are going to get it w/ the BB you might as well get the GT35r, I believe the GT housings are more advanced than the standard ported t04e/s/t3 housings that precision offers.
I'm not sure, but I belive it comes with a differnt turbine housing than the SC series.
When I ordered my SC61 from Art, he sent me one that had the integral wg port. So I sent it back and he said he didn't have any SC turbine housings with out the hole at the time. So he said he would hook me up with one of the new precision's cause he had thoes without the wg port. (
to Art)
That is when I learned about the BB version

A Garret GT35R vs. a Precision ball bearing SC61 w/ GT35 exhaust wheel would be a tuff choice.. The GT35R comes w/ a 4-bolt exhaust housing while the Precision comes standard w/ a 5-bolt. The GT35R comes standard w/ a .70ar "S" housing while the Precision comes w/ a .60ar "E" housing, but the "S" is an option to upgrade. What we have found though w/ the SC61 is that it really likes the "E" housing and we never really reccomend the upgrade. I guess in the end you would have to make ur decision on fitment w/ ur set up, customer service, and price.

Sure alot of turbos can flow enough air for 10psi, but there is a big difference between pressure and VOLUME.. There is not another turbo on the market that can spool faster then an SC61 and push the same volume of air except the Garret GT35R(retail: 1800$)... and guess what?? the bb that will be offered with the precision turbos will be exactly the same as garrett's?????????????
if so, there no way it wont drive the price up much higher.
the garret housings are also more advanced.
everything is "cleaner" too. the housings casts etc.
