Default Test pipe Sickness :-*

I've had it..

Setup: D16Z6 Cai/Dc sports 4-1 header/apexi n1 catback/test pipe.

Recently i installed my header and my test pipe at the same time..well i got sick of it sounding like constant **** on WOT.

Yesterday i bolted my stock cat back up and i feel a constant power loss.
With the test pipe it pulled so much harder and was much quicker it seems..

I want this power back but not with having to deal with that nasty *** sound.

I searched test pipe found some intresting things and found some info out about resiginated test pipes (spelling )..if i get one of these will it still sound like ***? Sound better? Much quiter? ANY input is much useful..

Also One of my friends is wanting to trade there dc sports catback for mine and I'm considering doing it...if i get that exhaust and run a resiginated test pipe is this still gonna sound like ***?

BTW: I live in TN no emissions

Just get a Random Tech cat...don't waste money or time searching for "different types" of test pipes. They're all ****...a piece of metal pipe with flanges, that if nothing else will just cost you a few horse unless you're already turnin some pretty high hp numbers. There are gains to be made over a stock cat...but a test pipe isnt the way to go, and if your not interested in Random Tech for some reason, spend some time looking at hi-flow cats instead of **** pipes.

Ok, use your resources such as Yahoo! and Google.com....makes life a helluva lot easier. But to answer your questions, here is random tech's homepage (and yes, the cat's do bolt up....and are very high-quality pieces): http://www.randomtechnology.com/. I didn't take the time to meander around their site any (having dealt with them previously), but if prices aren't listed...heres a step-by-step....go to Yahoo.com, type in "Random Technology Cat", hit enter....and browse through the parts sites that do have prices listed. Good luck.

Why are test pipes junk?

Blanket statements with no facts to back it up don't help anybody.

I think you should just trade that guy for the DC...
it's called a resonated test pipe. it's kinda like another straight-through muffler.

good idea, but they cost a bit. theres a nice JDM unit for sale inn the classifieds. i'll look to see if i can find it.

I've got a resonated test pipe for sale cheap

When I replaced the test pipe with a cat, it didn't change the way the exhaust sounded at all. I changed because I had to pass emissions.

I hope that helps you out a lilttle.

Trust me no matter what, I've had straight pipes, resonated pipes, and cats, the catalytic converter is the only one that sounds nice with a straight through exhaust.

I ran with a test pipe with my d16z6...sounded like ****. It wasnt the exhaust. Then I got rid of the test pipe, installed a hiflo cat, and everything was dandy.

with that setup you are actually makeing less power with the test pipe i don't care what the butt dyno says, you are not pushing enough air threw the motor to need a test pipe, maybe you cat is all pluged up and what not so get a new one, but id be willing to bet if you threw that beiotch on a dyno you would make less power with the test pipe.

In my own personal experence with the butt dyno, i had a "test pipe" on my hatch with a b18b and i was always kinda wondering why there wasn't the tq feeling that my freinds LS had. And my friend with a typeR swap was thinking the same thing his car felt like it had no tq. Well i got a cat put in cause i was tired of loud *** nasty *** noise. and wala tq was back told my friend with the typeR swap and he went and got a cat too sense he was also tired of the loud exhaust. same thing in his tq was back in the house.

so buy a new cat put that on and leave it alone every one will love you for it, especally the people that have to hear youre car every day

*edit* accidentally posted on my sisters husbands name.

Reguardless with whatever setup a test pipe is more free flowing.
Btw: the cat is new also. I know when my car has gains/power loss...but thanks anyway....ttt
