Default H22 intake mod...Idea's and opinions wanted.

I was just reading a good thread on another forum and was curious about this...

http://www.h22a.org/phpBB2/vie...#1905

I was considering this myself but haven't tried it but, after reading this am very interested.

It's basicllay just removing the IAB plate in the manifold since I have them disabled anyway, and possibly porting out the inside to a big plenium. Seem like it would be benifical for flow especilly with FI.

Also changing the 8 runners into 4 big runners...?

Any experience, or ideas would be great...

LOL.. yeah I know, seen ya on here before. I figured you'd chime in here too.

HT generally has more responses, and figured maybe there'd be some more experiences...

Plus if anyone ever asks me where I got the idea from.. I'll say some guy named "Rowdy" on the message boards..lol

in the final run i disconnected the vacuum line from flapper diaphram...im not saying that it created more hp... but now i want to see what happens when i take off the spacer and make the intake manifold shorter... well see

there's been about two threads about this before explaining that it seemingly produced a few more horsepower by porting out the intake plenum, but removing the butterflies didn't do much.....and these mods make you lose bottom-end torque.

Hrmm...

There seems to have been mixed response about using iab's or not. Either way I've decided not to ever since I went FI. So I think just removing the slight restriction of the iab/open plates/pivot shafts alone should help a little, it definitly couldn't hurt.

I'm not to worried about the loss of low-end torque as I will be push about 20psi in the next few weeks.

Do you have the links for the previous posts I searched around but couldn't seem to find any prior to making this post???

Try here: https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

Type in IAB and click on the archived content button before hitting search.

He dynoed it and lost power everywhere except a small gain. And that's fully built, I could imagine how bad it is on a moderately stock engine under 200whp..

Verdict: Worst mod ever.

maybe it's not a mad idea for FI...but for all motor I would never recommend it. Which reminds me I need to get my IABs working again

Agreed, probably a better mod for use with boost or really high compression.

I already searched iab shyte and get the same endless debates that I read when i disabled my iabs... I couldn't find that thread about modding though.

It didn't really have any usefull info though... We all know in NA removing the iab has little to no gain with the possibility for some low end loss.

I'm more interested in the FI application for this, Especilly in the 10+psi range this seems like it would be benafcial. I unno I wish I had an extra IM to test both ways on, to get some kind of results. Although changing the IM in my civic is near impossible aside from removing a large hunk of firewall..heh

I think I'm just gonna do it and if it seems like it's effecting my performance considerably I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy an aftermarket Intake when I can afford it...

I'll try to document it atleast so maybe we can get some usefull info out of it...

This was my little project just over a year ago.
http://www.h22a.org/phpBB2/vie...art=0

It was N/A back then, and it did dyno well, (even though I did not go in for baseline testing first).

i've notice that performance IM have short runners compared to stock IM... so im thinkin that by taking off the spacer it would reduce the distance the air would need to travel to the piston.... so it should benefit in higher rpm

...but until then, it will hurt air velocity.

The question is will the motor breath enough air to benefit from this mod?

Check the dynos

I think it would work well with N20.

Don't forget that the IM gasket might or might not come off clean... If not, then you'll be there for hours scraping off the old gasket.

The gasket broke into about 5 peices and the peices just pulled right off... wasn't a big issue. I got some pics, I'll post them later.

Well here's some pics I took yesterday of marking it up...

I'm gonna go around the 2 spots with the hole in the casting and just smooth them out good I think.

It's like making your own Euro R IM.

Good progress.

Yeah it's getting there...

I couldn't find any of my dam carbides anywhere so I gotta hit up a store tommorow and get some. I got all the rest of my parts for my buildup today, and my pistons came back from coating so I gotta get going on this buildup. Hopefully I can get this mani done tommorow.

I'll take some more pics..
