Hey,
Toyo T1S, these are the tires required for full race SCCA cars on Speedvision... what do you ppl think about them? I am currently on Azenis (daily driver/autoXer) $115 each

That was atleast my experience and another CRX owner..

This will happen with any street tire. I have used the Azenis on th track to much success. Aren't the Toyos more expensive??

not as much with the kumho mx. They like to be at least 30 degrees hotter than the azenis to get maximum grip. They are great on very hot days. I'm switching back to the azenis though as they have a better range of lower temps needed which you can get for auto-x. If for HPDE's I would definately get the kumho mx over the azenis though. Just my opinion based on pyrometer readings at many events.

I am sure the toyos cost must more then the Azenis.
Cheap hard compount street tires were nowhere near as sloppy as the Azenis after they got really hot..but thats just my experience. And is nowhere near what alot of these guys have.
I have a set of Azenis that are near bald that I am not goin to take to Buttonwillow this weekend... I would rather have 420 tread wear street tires, ( I may end up learning how to be smoother one these any how)

see that knows more then I He even has a pyrometer....and wouldn't use azenis for HDPE
Need to get my suspension settled before I get a pyrometer
(ground controls on the list, but I need to figure out spring rates)

The Azenis on our CRX are running nicely. They do get a bit 'greasy' after 25 minutes or so on tracks like The Glen and Pocono in the summer heat. As to stickiness they are very good on a newer surface such as BeaveRun. For ~$50 apiece they are just fine overall versus ~$130 Yoko's or Hoosiers-just not as fast. Just my experience.
I'm on my second set of the Falkens and I've loved them. Mine used to get real sloppy, and then I added to my 'smoothness,' and haven't really had too much more trouble.
My only problem with them is they get pretty bad in downpour conditions on public highways, to the point where it's a little scary once they're a little worn. I've been contemplating an alternate tire that'll be able to handle this a little better, without being a big disappointment on track. (Yes, I do slow down, but so much that I am terrified of being run over by big-rigs in low visibility conditions.)
Anyone have enough experience with the S-03s/MXs/T-1S in relation to the Falkens to tell me if I'll be disappointed with them on a dry track, after a couple years on Azeni?

I run these tires on the street....I love them. I havn't got out to the track with them yet..but if you are using a 15" wheel and can stand to use 195's you can get the tires for 59 a peice from http://www.onlinetires.com
I had the T1-S and the grip/response was not EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE as the Azenis. They were fantastic in the wet, but I would never buy them again, especially given their high price.
I currently use Kuhmo MX as DD tires and they are excellent.
I think Azenis ultimately have more grip than the MX, that said Id like to try the MX on super hot day vs Azenis as previously mentioned.

Good street tire, but don't expect too much on the track. I'm still on my current set of T1-S (mounted May 2002).
Have you seen the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 that looks almost like T1-S?

I've driven them on a friend's Miata, as well as the Azenis. I myself have had ES100's, Yokohama Advan Neovas, Bridgestone S-03's, and Michelin Pilot SX-GTs. The T1-s are very grippy, especially in the wet, and ride very smoothly, but their response and turn-in are quite dull from a soft sidewall. According to a friend, the Goodyear Eagles are comparable to the T1s, similar weight, with a bit more grip, but a lot more turn-in response with little degradation in ride quality. They will be my next tire. Check out the surveys on tirerack.com
Ranking, best to worst: (slash means about even)
Dry smooth road grip:
Azenis, T1s/S03, Neovas, ES100
bumpy dry mountain road grip: (SO3's and Azenis skitter and lose grip)
T1s, Neovas, SO3/Azenis, ES100
Wet grip (with puddles):
T1s, SO3, Neovas, ES100, Azenis
Response and turn-in: <- (The Pilot SX-GTs ruled this)
Neovas, SO3, Azenis, ES100, T1s
Ride quality
T1s, ES100, Neovas, SO3, Azenis (budda budda)
Freeway noise
SO3/ES100/T1s, Neovas, Azenis (Neovas hum, Azenis roar)
Squealing (quiet when sliding = nobody notices if you slide around
)
Azenis, SO3, ES100, Neovas, T1s (The Azenis are remarkably quiet, T1s's howl)
Weight
T1s/Neovas/ES100, SO3, Azenis (oink)
Cheers.

I like the Goodyears, also *VERY* excellent wet weather driving capability. I honestly feel the Goodyears gain more cornering ability the more they wear down (to a certian point of course). Also, they have a 6 layer sidewall which makes them pretty damn stiff, and can also manage up to 55psi max in the stock lude size tire.

Yeah thats the 2nd thread he posted that little trinket of info in too... i dont get it either. I actually have a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires on my saturn (picked them up for $100, 205/55/15) and i think they're a great street tire, but definately not as good as the azenis.

Just because you can inflate them a few more Psi doesnt mean the sidewall is stronger.

Agreed. I've autocrossed on RE92s with the rear tires up to 75psi... MXs up to 57psi.

yes they will. Here are some pics of mine after a few hot auto-x runs. You should have seen them after I ran them during 30 min sessions at talladega grand prix.
