Default breaking in new motor

I was wondering for people who have had there motor built. What kind of break in procedure did you use? How high of an rpm can i bring the motor up to and what type of oil to use? Also for how many miles? I was thniking of trying this out http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Anybody try this method out?
Thanks in advance

just make sure you don't stay at at a constant rpm....vary your rpms....take up high but don't keep it there too long. don't use synthetic yet also. i've heard it's really slippery for a new motor. change your oil the first 500 miles...hmmmm what else?

i let mine warm up for 20 min, then went out for a quick drive and let it rip. car still pulls over 300PSI on my friends compression tester and 270s on mine. its been in the car for 2 seasons and only sees the track.

So when I get my motor in I should start it up and let it idle for 20 min. After that drive it around the city for about 500 miles and don't let my revs stay constant? So its ok for me to let it rip once and a while? Also how would I drive if I was to go on the freeway?

According to Golden Eagle. Use non-synthectic oil. Drive for 500 miles not exceding 4000 rpms. Change the oil at 500 miles, and for every hundred miles over 500 start increasing the RPM's by 1000. (Does that make sense?) Change the oil again at 750, and at 1000 (Let it rip, and use whatever oil you want at this point.)

Good Luck!

This is the break-in method that I'm using...

I heard the same thing, cept, for every 100 miles you increase 500 rpms all the way to readline.

This is what i did...I used non-detergent oil to start,Primed the oil pump by removing spark plugs and cranking the engine for about 15 seconds. The oil light may not even turn on,but its just to get oil in the oil pump.Reinstalled the plugs, started it,brought it up slowly to 3000 rpms and held it there for 5 minutes while some else watched over the engine and made sure nothing was leaking anywhere.BTW,the radiator cap was off so once the thermostat opened up,i was able to have someone put coolant in while it was running.once that was done, closed up the radiator, and took it out for a spin.drove it slowly just down the street, then once i got on a main street,i gave it some good throttle, but not flooring it either.I let the engine rev up to 3000 max for the first 20 miles and also allowed the car to slow down by itself while still in gear......i was told this helps the oil control rings seat better, and helps remove debri that has already formed on the cylinder walls. Then once i got to another deserted street,i gunned it to 5000 rpms and let it slow the car down again while in gear.Did this a few times driving around the city whenever it was safe. Then after that i drove it normally for 100 miles without vtec and of course, tried avoiding long freeway trips and traffic.changed the oil filter and oil to some cheap regular detergent oil,and drove it around normally for about another 1500 miles.I didnt really start hitting vtec till about 500 miles or so,i tried not to redline the engine till about 800 or so.At 1000 miles,i checked compression and i had 285 for a 11.5:1 compression h22after 6 cranks.None of the regular detergent oil burned,it was pretty much the same from when i put it in.Any new engine might burn a little oil at the begining, but it should stop after 1000 miles.Don't baby the car either, many people believe for some reason that you have to drive the car like a grandma or else something is gonna go wrong....If it was built right, then nothing should go wrong.

This is what I did. I turned the motor over with no plugs in it to get some oil into the pump. Put the plugs back in and fired it up. I kept the RPM's around 2000 while I was burping the cooling system. After that I drain the oil before I even took it for a drive. I drove the car, all stop and go for about 500 miles occasionally bringing the RPM's up to about 5000 real quick. Changed the oil again. Then I just drove the car around for about another 500 miles keeping the rpm's down and occasionally zinging it up to 7000. When I hit 1000 miles I changed the oil again and then I let her rip really hard quite a few times.
A good thing to do is save the oil filters you used during the break in and cut them open to see whats inside the filter element; metal shavings, dirt, etc. Get a magnetic drain plug too... and pull your plugs out during the break in to see how the look...
