I'am just confussed... with my car up on jacks...when you spin the front wheels, if both tires spin in different directions, does that mean I have LSD?
if you can take both of your axles off, also the half shaft, and look through the whole, you have lsd. when i say "look through the whole", i mean you can actually look where your axles and half shaft once went, and see from one side to the other. There should be no obstructions, keeping you from seeing the ohter side. On some models the initials L.S.D is stamped on the casings also, but i would still check to make sure. Ive heard of importers taking the lsd out and putting in a regular diff.

What tranny do you have and is it stock?
On jackstands spinning wheel by hand -
My GSR with Quaife: wheels spin in opposite directions
My GSR w/o LSD (stock): only one wheel spins
5th gen Prelude SH: wheels spin in opposite directions too - which is weird since the ATTS isnt a mechanical LSD.
Foozball26 - What car and tranny are you using and are you positive both wheels spin in the same direction when rotated by hand? Perhaps you mean they spin the same when in gear.

this is definatly a stupid comment, but i feel i have to ask. when i was f'in around b4 i got new tires i was doin burnouts and whatnot, when i took off the ebrake and peeled out while driving- i left 2 strips of about the same amount of rubber about 20 or so feet long. if i didnt have an lsd shouldnt i have only left 1 track? also when i was replacing my axle again the other day i looked into the tranny and it had that bar in the diff between the axles, which should mean no lsd. im confused.
you can leave two tracks WITHOUT a LSD of course.
you are more likely to reap the benefits of a LSD during corner carving / autocrossing or circuit racing.
you guys with your method of checking for LSD by jacking up the front of the car and spinning a wheel... THE TRANNY MUST BE IN GEAR to perform this test.
and I dont even remember if the wheels rotate the same direction with LSD or if they are opposing.... but its in the archives!

be a ******* man , find a nice concrete parking lot or road and do a 7.5 K clutch drop......if you leave to lines for a long time you have a LSD.
make sure it is longer than acouple of seconds because with or without a LSD, a short burnout will show two lines...

Stock LS tranny with quaife, and yes when spun by hand the tires go in the same direction.

You can still do the exact same w/out an LSD. The only way to really tell is to visually inspect the tranny's differential itself.... Any other way and you're just guessing.

wow...
never believed there could be that much confusion on HT about a relatively simple thing. Katman has a nice post with really helpful pictures. That's how you determine if you have lsd.
